Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have a whirlpool model LSR 8233JQ0 washing machine. The tub will fill and agitate but will not empty out or spin. I replace the lid switch without success. The machine makes a sort of ticking sound when I turn the knob to spin. Please help.

You say it wont drain the water??? if it fills, agitates , and doesnt advance past the first rinse cycle, it does sound like a lid switch issue, can you hear the switch "clicking" when the door is just about closed??? if not then its not recognizing the door and wont advance for safety reasons.and when you replaced the switch were you sure to remember ot replug the harness before reassmbleing the unit

Washer fills with water but then will not cycle through after filling tub

I looked up yur model. It is a fine washer. Your lid switch on this model don't allow for wsh or spin if the the lid is ope. Older models would let the washer wash but not spin. This switch here won't allow for wash or spin. How it works

My page on these

Note: this washer is a newer model and I have yet to come across one. I believe your problem to be the lid switch. It has 3 wires. 2 hot ones and another one attached to the frame. Jump them 2 live wires and see if she runs. If it works get a new switch and party on!

Whirlpool model # LLR6144BQ1 water fills but will not go to wash cycle.

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
This is usually caused by a failed lid switch that is item 9 this link:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=256996

First off put the washer in the spin cycle. With the lid closed see if the washer will spin. No spin also = bad lid switch. If the washer spins but will not agitate then the problem is most likely the water level pressure switch or associated air tubing. (any air leaks and it will not stop filling)
Water level switch is item 12 here:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=256996&diagram_id=28209075#d28209075
We test these with NO WATER in the machine and after connecting an external hose with the lid closed with power on by orally passing air into the small air hose we connected. It will click and the washer must agitate. If it clicks and does not agitate... again it points to the lid switch. Disconnecting this water level switch hose with ater in the maching and then re-connecting the hose WILL result in the machine overflowing. Tub MUST be empty.

You check the lid switch as you just open or close the lid. You should hear an audible CLICK as the lid is barely off of its closed position and again as the lid is almost closed. NO CLICK = bad door switch.

These are the 2 most common reasons that will correct the symptom your experiencing more than 90 percent of the time. There is a remote possibility that there is a problem with the motor / motor clutch. Motor clutch problems are noted by odd noises when motor is running and it will not spin or agitate. If the motor will spin the machine but will not agitate the machine it can be a motor winding.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Agitator won,t work tub will fill, and empty but won't spin and agitator won't work

Lid switch If the lid switch is defective, the washing machine may not agitate or function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

Whirlpool ultamate will not spin or drain water, does wash and ag

A washer that fills and doesn't do anything, or stops right after the wash cycle and then does not advance to the rinse cycle and drain is commonly caused by a lid switch malfunction. The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug. If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

If the switch requires replacement, a new one can be purchased on line at searspartsdirect.com, pcappliancerepair.com, repairclinic.com, appliancepartspros.com. Just use your model number as your search criteria. All these sites offer competitive pricing, so shop all them for the best price. If you have questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Washing Machine wont spin/agitate

The most common problem is the lid switch. with a screw driver in hand open the lid and press down on the lid switch. sometimes the mounting screws will crack the switch housing and the striker can't move the actuator far enough. I am interested in the clicking noise, as this could indicate a pump issue or a sock seizing up the tub.
