There are two clips on either side just between the main top and the front panel assy, perhaps 3-4 inches in from both sides, insert a sturdy putty knife and youll be able to POP the clips and gain acess to under the lid. THEY can be quite the super clip at times so you may need to push alittle harder hen expected. the main harness then runs inside behind main console itself, feed it though ad n reconnect!

My whirlpool top load washer won't drain and spin

This is likely to be a problem with the lid switch.the lid switch is activated by the lid stricker when you lower the lid.these machines will normally fill & wash without needing the lid closed but when it gets to spinning & draining the lid must be closed,so the machine is acting as though the lid is open.the lid has probably been dropped or slammed shut & this can break the lid switch from where it mounts with 2 phillips head screws.

LS error

The machine control detected that the lid switch is not functioning properly. Raise the top part of the washer to gain access to the lid switch.

Disconnect the machine from the power source. Gently pry the emblem from the front of the machine and remove the T20 torx screw hidden behind it. Slide the top of the washer forward and raise its front. Prop it up high enough to allow easy access to the lid switch.

The lid switch is activated by an actuator (part number 19119) mounted on a hinge. It will not work properly if the actuator is damaged.

Check the operation of the lid switch using a multimeter. Disconnect the lid switch wiring harness and connect the test leads of the multimeter (set to X1 or ohm) to the terminals of the lid switch and activate it. The multimeter should read zero ohms while the lid switch is activated and open when deactivated.

Replace the lid switch if it is broken or if it fails the test above. Remove the lid switch mounting screw and install the new lid switch. Reconnect the wiring harness and slide the top of the washer back into position. Reinstall the T20 torx screw and the emblem.

I have a Whirlpool 2 ultimate care top loading washer that wont spin- clothes come out soaked. I pulled tghe motor, and the coupling between it and the transmission is fine- I spin the trans shaft, and it...

I would recommend checking your lid switch. If the washer fills and doesn't do anything, or stops right after the wash cycle and then does not advance to the rinse cycle and drain, this is commonly caused by a lid switch malfunction. The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug.

If not activated by a lid strike, other models have the lid switch located under the washer casing next to one of the lid hinges. It is activated by a rod contacting an actuator. The mounting scews for this type are located under the operator console.

If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to access the washer interior and replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

If the switch requires replacement, a new one can be purchased on line at appliancepartspros.com, searspartsdirect.com, pcappliancerepair.com, or repairclinic.com. The average cost of a replacement is $25 to $35.

NOTE: Pounding on the lid or storing heavy items on the lid can contribute to premature failure of the lid switch.

If you have questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Whirlpool washer stops for no reason.

i would be concerned teh the door/lid switch is not being activated, or is loosing contact withthe swtch mid wash causing unit to shut off. unitll the lid is lifted and closed to make better contact.. tyhe activator for the lid switch is actually the underside of the lefthand lid hinge. so if your able toreah under the lid while open you feel the metal lever, as you push and pull hte lid youll feel the lever move as well. with a hollow shafted screwdriver/1/4 nutdriver. place the driver over the metallever andslightly bend it toward the rear of the uni, so it makes better contact with the switch mounted tothe underside of the main top assembly

Washer won't turn on at all

This is a very common symptom of a lid switch malfunction. This happens when the switch wears out. The switch may be loose or not making good contact. As you open and close the lid, you should hear a "clicking" sound as the lid switch is activated. If you do not hear the switch, you will need to remove the console and exterior casing to access the switch. The lid switch on your model is located near the left lid hinge, and is activated by a small steel rod. Sometimes, all it takes is adjusting this rod by bending it slightly to make the switch activate. If you can get the switch to click or activate by hand, there's a good chance all you need to do is adjust the rod that activates it. If you attempt all these preliminaries, and the switch still does not seem to be working properly, replace it.

Replacement parts can be found at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your model number and the lid switch will be located under the "Top and Cabinet" heading as item number 11 (part #8318084). You may also check repairclinic.com. They carry the SAME parts and sometimes offer a better price. For instructions on how to replace a lid switch, click on the following link:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385199-replacing_lid_switch_whirlpool_top

I know the link is for a Kenmore or Whirlpool washer, but your washer is manufactured by Whirlpool and uses the same parts. This is a simple and inexpensive repair if you wish to accomplish this on your own. This total repair will cost you about $15 (if the switch is required). Let me know if you require addtional assistance.

There is no belt. This is a direct drive unit. There is a motor coupler located between the motor and the transmission.

Your washers lid switch could be worn and need to be replaced. Depending upon the model you may see a small peg on the washer lid that mates with a hole on the machine. The switch is located beneath this hole. You can try poking the switch with a pen or similar object to see if it activates the wash cycle. it will only work if the switch indicates that the lid is closed.
