Sony Optiarc DVD drive won't recognize a blank DVD

I have a desktop emachines T3646. It has a Sony Optiarc DVD RW AD-1700A ATA Device built in. It will not recognize a blank DVD to do backups. A box pops up & says No Disk in Drive. I have tried DVD+RW & DVD-RW both Memorex. It will see a blank CD. Help.

The DVD driver software may be corrupted or deleted. You may reinstall the DVD driver.

Please download the driver of "Sony Optiarc DVD RW AD-1700A ATA Device" which is for your Operating System. You can find it in the CD given with the desktop.

Then test again to burn DVDs.

Hope this helps.

    Hi Linda,

Did you install the right driver? If you install and test it I think then the DVD drive should be able to read the disks.

Would you please try this. What is your operating system? If you do not have the DVD driver to install, I can try to find it for you. But I must know your operating system and version.

Waiting your comments on line right now :) If this doesn't work then I'll try to find different solution. First we have to test this.

Yes, I was asking the operating system. It is Windows Vista. Vista always makes problem with the drivers. And I also search for the driver of "Sony Optiarc DVD RW AD-2700A" device for Vista.

If you don't find Vista driver it makes problem. I could not find. If you have CD for Vista use it.

Yes you are right. If it doesn't work you should install from PC itself or from internet.

    Now try this:

Please go to the Control Panel > Device manager and from there uninstall the DVD driver.

Then from Add device menu, try to add new device (it is the DVD drive) automatically or manually selecting its name from the list of Vista.

    Then restart the PC.

When it asks for a Driver CD, select to find automatically from PC's operating system or from internet.

If it can't find the drivers automatically from system or from internet, try to do this:

    - Copy the printer drivers from your CD to a USB disk using another computer.

    - Then Use this USB in your PC to show the printer driver path, or install using this USB instead of CD.

    - Then restart PC.

    Hope this helps.

Sorry, I said printer driver,i my last comment. I mean DVD drivers of Sony Optiarc.

If the DVD that you had is Vista Operating System it should be huge for a portable USB disk. You shall copy only Optiarc DVD drivers to USB to be able to install using it.

Ye I see, your DVD doesn't work

Is there a USB port of your emachine?

    If the answer is yes,

You need a USB drive. Find another PC and copy the DVD drivers of "Optiarc DVD device" from DVD which you had (optiarc vista drivers DVD) to the USB.

Then using this USB with your emachine, install the driver of "optiarc DVD" from USB.

After installation you shoul be see the optiarc DVD drivers in the driver list of Vista.

    I mean that.

    Good luck.

Also in one of my previous comments I asked to use control panel to add driver.

Did you test to do. If not please try this firs:

    - Open Control Panel,

    - Open System and Maintenance,

    - Open Device Manager,

    - Select Add device,

Then follow the instructions to add a DVD drive (if you can't find your sony optiarc DVD name in the list you can select any other sony DVD name to add)

This may help your emachine to recognize the DVD Driver.

    Then restart you emachine.

    Would you please try this.

    - Now connect that USB into emachine.

    - As I said in my previous comment, Add device (DVD device) from control panel menu of Vista.

    - When system asks for the DVD driver, do not select it from the list, select (show) the USB which you connected to install.

    - It will try to find the DVD driver from the USB automatically. If can not find automatically, select the folder related to DVD Drive in the USB when askes for the folder where to get.

Try a cold boot. Shut down the computer. Remove the battery. Unplug the power cord. Wait at least five minutes. Start up the computer. If still does not work, go to device manager --> CD/DVD drives. Uninstall the Optiarc drive. Go to Actions --> Scan for Hardware Changes, or simply reboot to reinstall the drive.

Windows vista updated and now my optiarc dvd rw drive won't work

You will have to uninstall the drive and reinstall again. I think the drivers for the drive is not properly installed. But if all this does not work, then I think you will have to do a system restore.
