Hello Vic;
Start with “L” & “H” needle valves 1.5 CCW from lightly seated, then adjust for performance as follows.
Carburetor Adjustment by Madsens.com
http://www.madsens1.com/saw%20carb%20tune.htm

  • CW is leaner; to lean will destroy the saw. If over tightened closed (CW) the adjustment screw faces are easily marred; marred adjustments are difficult to impossible to set properly.
  • Clean the air filter; adjusting with a dirty filter can cause a run lean condition once cleaned and the saw run.
  • Clean the spark arrestor and muffler; if the saw cannot exhale it cannot inhale.
  • There are 2 wav (sound - idle & full - may not be highlighted) files that I find most helpful, I think you will too.
I am going to inject a little philosophy here. Undetected air leaks and defective fuel delivery systems account for most chainsaw failures. Constant adjustment of needle valves can easily camouflage more serious problems that result in burning up your saw. A sudden need for an adjustment may be indicative of a larger problem.

I searched for an OM with no good luck. Please contact them here:
Homelite.com (Contact Us)
https://register.homelite.com/contact_us/new
Ask they create an on line location where OMs can be found and down loaded please.

If you have more questions or need additional help please reply below and I will get back to you. HTH & Good Luck.

You mention your saw is in the mountains, caution please the thinner air will cause a run lean condition with the needles at a richer setting. Is there a small chainsaw shop there? Buy the attendant a cup of coffee and inquire what initial setting he/she uses. Stihls initial setting is leaner than most, add at least 14 turn CCW to what a Stihl mechanic suggests unless he specifically mentions Homelite.

Please bear in mind if set to run at altitude it will be leaner in the valley. Do not want to see anyone toast their saw. Thanks for the the reply Vic.

Homelite mightylite leaf blower starts and idles but wont rev to high speed

Have you moved the needle valves? If not good. If so bad. So if you have not moved them gently turn them in counting the turns and part of turns for each valve. Jot this down. Then take out the valves one at a time and spray some carb cleaner into the needle hole. Then put each valve back in the same number of turns and try to start. If you disturbed the valves first start by seating the valves then turn out one turn.

Homelite xl chainsaw won't start. I took out spark plug, put in some fuel and if fired right up. But won't run.

You need to clean out the carb. possibly replace the Needle Valve and check the Diaphram for stiffness. Also check the fuel line for cracks and rott.

Homelite carb schematics

The fuel pump side goes: carb body, diaghram, gasket, cover.
The metering side ( side with the needle) goes: carb body, gasket, diaghram, cover. On the diaghram, the side with the larger disc and the holes around it and the nub in the center goes down toward the needle lever.
Any adjustment needles can be set at 1 and 1/2 turns out to start. Turn out to richen. If it falls on its face and bogs when you throttle up then its lean and needs to be richened up.

I have a Dinli 50cc runs and starts but dies when pushing throtle over half way - I have cleaned carb but did not take out needle and seat- there is gas all over carb and never use to be - does this bike...

Definitely check the needle and seat. It sounds like the fuel is rising too high. If the needle is the type with a rubber tip, it may need to be replaced because they don't stand up very well to the ethanol that is added to gasoline these days. Safe riding.

What are the carberator settings for a homelite bandit sx-135 weed eater?

If it's a Zama 2-stroke carb...the reference settings for the high and low speed needle jets are... turn them all the way in till they are snug and them bring them back out about 1 1/2 turns. (one and a half ) That is a good starting point for their carbs and should get it to start so fine tuning can be done.

Homelite ht 17 hedge trimmer won't stay running

Homelite support page was no help.    Usually with these small engines you start the needle placment by lightly seatign the needles all the way in and then  1and 1/2 turns out.    That is enough to get the engine started, then ajusted while running almost always father in. Idel jet at idle , of course and high speed jet under load,if possible. I would start with the carb first as that is the most likely problem.
