Sony HandyCam DCR-HC51. After recording, cannot show date/times

Sony HandyCam DCR-HC51. After recording, cannot see dates and times on TV or PC. When first purchased, it was fine, and I was able to make DVDs with dates and times on. Manual too hard to understand. Is there a sequence of (simple) steps that I can take to correct this.

This is not a monster you wanna open and play with as I've seen this puppy and its loaded with flex cables connecting all the differant pcb's together. You wanna take this or send out to a camcorder specialist please. You also need a special set of these cables to work on this unit as well as a few special service jigs. Good Luck

SOURCE: How is the time/date stamp displayed on a copy

The time/date is 'stamped' onto the video during recording. The time/date stamp function can be turned on or off in the setup menu. If it was 'on' during recording, it will be displayed when played back. If it was turned off, it will not be seen on the recording.

Time date stamp dcr trv140. I have this model. The date does not show in the view screen or on the audio output. Just wondered if any did on this model. Maybe I have a cheaper model.

From the 'Operating Instructions' manual:
"The recording date and time are not displayed while recording. however, they are recorded automatically onto the tape. To display the
recording date and time, press DATA CODE on the Remote Commander (remote control) during recording."

Date show in recording on my sony dcr-sr68

Hi PeterVera,

There should be a button on the side marked "Data Code" or similar; keep pressing it until the date/time are no longer displayed.

Hope this helps.

Time/Date stamp doesn't show up...

this camcorder has a built in rechargeable battery for the memory of the date and time, if you do not use it for more than three months, it will discharge all the way; to recharge, you need to plug camera with ac power for 24 hours and the camera turned off. this should charge the internal battery complete.

Sony Handycam DCR-TRV18E

Hi there,

Firstly you need the remote control that came with your camera (RMT-814).

Switch on your camera to VCR mode. Then on the remote, press the Data Code button (and of course, point the remote towards your camera). This should display the date and time in the bottom left of the screen.

It should display the appropriate date and time for each bit of recorded video.

Hope this helps!
