Question about Garmin StreetPilot c340 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Street names Sometimes my Garmin will say the street name and other times it won't. I found that restoring settings fixes the problem from awhile but it's not a permanent solution. I test it with a favorite and then punch the "Turn in 0.2 miles" on the right hand side It says "turn right on east warren avenue" After awhile I try again and it doesn't say it anymore just "Turn Right"

You are not changing the voice at all, correct? Does this happen at any particular interval, or is it completely random?

When is the last time you updated the software from Garmin? They occasionally change the voice software due to issues. If you have not done so, you might want to use the WebUpdater to see if there is a fix for this issue, or simply a change in the voice software that may correct this without stating it will do so.

My garmin nuvi 255w does not speak street names. How do I set it up to speak the street names?

I'm afraid the 255w does not speak street names. A satnav needs to have "Text To Speech" capability before it can speak the names and the 255 doesn't have it.

Does the garmin nuvi 255W speak street names

I had the same problem with my nuvi 255w. Called tech support at Garmin and they told me one of the voices under Tools, Settings, Language, Voice has to end in a persons name. I had British English selected and it did not speak street names. When I selected Austrailian Englich - Karen, the street names all work fine.

Garmin 265 W won't speak street names

Hi,

Below is the procedures for setting the languages...

Touch tools > settings > language > voice.

Voice- changes the language for voice promts.
Languages noted with a persons name are (tts)
text to speak voices.

which have an extensive vocabulary and pronounce
the street names as you approach turns.

The pre-recoreded voices (those without a persons name)
have a limited vocabulary and (do not speak names of locations or streets)

Text language- change all on-screen text to the selected language,
changing the text language does not change the language of user entered data
or map data, such as street names.

Keyboard- select the keyboard for your language,
you can also change the keyboard language mode from any keyboard
by touching the mode button

Adjusting the volume levels
From the "menu" page touch "volume"
to adjust the volume.

To adjust the volume levels for the media player
and the navigation prompts,
please click.

Tools > settings > Volume > Restore
Restore will, restore to origional volume levels.

Regards
Richard

Help - my Garmin 260W no longer announces street names. How can I get this feature to reactivate????

All of the Garmin automotive GPS units that speak street names are also loaded with basic voice prompts (i.e. 'Turn Right in 500 feet') as well as 'text-to-speech' voices that speak street names. If one of the basic types of voice prompts has been selected, the voice prompts will not speak street names.
In order to change this setting, please follow these steps:
  1. Touch Tools (Wrench Icon) from the Main Menu
  2. Touch Settings.
  3. Touch Language*
  4. Touch on the blue rectangle that corresponds with Voice
  5. Touch on a voice that is labeled with (TTS) at the end. These voices will speak street names. Options without a name or the TTS label will say the distance until the next turn, but will not include the street name.
  6. Touch Ok
The voice has now been changed.

If this is not what you meant, please reply with further details. If you found the solution resolved your issue, kindly take a moment to award this a Fixya rating in appreciation of my efforts.

Thank you.

Gamin nuvi 260W - Cannot set to text-to-voice.

Garmin automotive GPS devices that have text-to-speech (speak street names) are also loaded with pre-recorded voices that do not speak street names (example: "Turn Right in 500 feet"). If one of these pre-recorded voices has been selected, the voice prompts will not speak street names.
To change the voice prompt to spoken street names:
  1. Touch Tools (Wrench icon) from the Main Menu
  2. Touch Settings*
  3. Select Language or Locale
  4. Touch the Voice language option
  5. Select a voice option that includes a person's name (ex. Emily) or TTS. Options without a name or the TTS label will say the distance until the next turn, but will not include the street name.
  6. Select OK
The device should now speak street names.
*Note: The Setting option is not required on all nuvi units.

Hope that helps! Should you have any further questions, please feel free to post them here.

P.S. – I would greatly appreciate a FixYa! rating if the solution I provided fixed or helped you resolve your problem.

Thank you for using FIXYA!

Cheers!

I have a Garmin 260W. When I first got it it announced the street names , but now it does not say the street names. Just says turn in so may feet etc. Can this be fixed and how??

Not all of the voices can give street names - only the ones enabled for text-to-speech (TTS). Go into the settings and select a voice marked TTS.
