No power when turned on, I checked motor brushes and they are almost worn out, could this be the problem? and where do I find replacement brushes? I have checked on Dirtdevil's site but I don't see any motor brushes. I am in Montreal, Canada. Thank You.

Hi,
Before that I wouild check the switch...the switches on those things go bad regularly...get a meter and check the power on either side of the main switch and I think your problem will be there...

The motor stopped running. i can bang it down and it kinda kicks on but wont stay on...how can i fix this or where can i order a replacement motor

before replacing the motor, check the switch itself,, it could be bad or shorting ,, also,, if it seems intermittent it could simply be the motor brushes are worn, both of those are much cheaper than the motor, as with many fixes, sometimes its cheaper to replace the whole thing that repair it,, especially with vacuums

I snagged a loose throw rug with the Dyson last night. It jammed the brushes which stopped spinning, Once I removed all the entangled fibers the motor won't turn. The vacume still sucks, but the brushes...

Have you checked the belt? You can do so by removing the bottom plate from the power head. Once removed, check the belt. If broken or worn, it needs replaced.
An instruction video for replacing the belt can be found on the below link.

My vacuum has a burning smell coming from it. What should i do?

It's most likely the belt in the power head is worn or loose. Friction against the roller and/or motor shaft will result in the smell. Replace it and you should be fine.
Check the roller brush for theads, hair, etc., and clean if necessary.
Depending on the age of the vacuum, the motor could be going bad. If debris has gotten into the motor, this happens. Also, if the brushes in the motor have worn done sufficiently, the holders grind against the armature, creating the smell. The motor needs replaced.
You don't mention the model, but instructions for replacing the belt may be in the manual.

My broan cv30 purchased in 1996 carpet power head unit sucks up dirt and rocks but will not pick string or yarns up from carpeting. I find myself picking it up. It is sucking fine dirt and small...

It's possible you simply need a new belt or roller brush. Place the power nozzle upside-down turn the vacuum on. Ensure the brush turns. If it doesn't, the belt has broken or is too worn to turn it. Replace the belt. Make sure the tension is properly set prior to reassembling the power nozzle.
Next, with the power nozzle upside down, run the flat of your palm across the brush area. If you can barely feel the bristles, it needs replaced. A good brush will loosen the yarn and strings, but needs to be cleaned periodically.
As long as the powerhead motor is running, there is no need to replace it. If it's not running, look for a reset button and press it. There could also be a broken wire, loose connection, or bad switch causing a power head motor to not operate..

My Kenmore canister vac's carpet beaterbrush doesn't work however the mini stair one does is the prob in the extendable pole?

The problem is more likely in the power head itself. If the power nozzle motor runs, but the brush doesn't rotate, then the likeliest problem is a broken or worn belt. It could be clogged or worn brush bearing, as well.
You may able to do a visual check for a broken belt. If not, turn PN so brush is facing up. Try turning the brush by hand. If it turns freely, the belt is broken. If it sticks badly, there's a bearing problem, or excessive thread, hair, or similar items wrapped around the brush and it needs cleaned. It can also be bad or clogged bearings, which will need to be cleaned or replaced.
I generally recommend even simple fixes like replacing a belt be done by an authorized service tech, as misplacement and improper tension can cause belt breakage and/or rapid wear, and even shortened life for the PN motor.
Check the connection where the wand or cord connects to the PN. If you see any discolored or obviously worn terminals, they need to be replaced.
If the motor doesn't run, even after pressing the reset button, then the problem is probably bad/broken wiring, wiring connections, or even a worn out motor.
If you still haven't found the problem, a repair shop can trace the problem and repair it, but it may be cheaper in the long run to buy a new vacuum.

Motor shaft wont turn on EL2050

Have you tried running the brush motor without a belt on it? Does it not spin without the belt? If so, you may have worn motor brushes (not too expensive parts, but make sure you order both brushes, or make sure they are sold as a set). If your motor is in good condition (you can check the brush motor by hooking it up to a momentary power source NEVER apply constant power to a motor that is not mounted to either the machine or something to keep it from running away) There is sometimes a switch down towards the brush head assembly that could be bad.
