Tub Seal

If the washer is leaking water the tub seal might have a tear or rip and is letting water leak past. The tub seal can be replaced. Tub to Pump Hose

If the washer is leaking water the hose from the tub to the pump might be split or torn. Don't try to cut off the bad piece of hose and stretch it to fit the pump, this will put strain on the remainder of the hose and may cause a sudden and complete failure of the hose which will dump potentially hundreds or thousands of gallons of water onto the floor because the next time the washer tries to fill all of the water will end up on the floor and so the washer will never shut off the valve. Any time there is a damaged hose, replace it completely with the OEM part.

Washing Machine Fill Hose

If the washer is leaking water, check the fill hoses on the back of the washer, this is the most common place for water to leak. If the washer still has the original black rubber fill hoses replace them with stainless steel or some other, more durable hose.

Drain Hose

If the washer is leaking water check the drain hose. The most common places for the hose to spring a leak is from the connection to the pump out to the back of the washer. Another common occurrence is when the washer gets pushed too far back against the wall.

How to replace the drive pump on Whirlpool top load (diagrams for models...

Hi.

If you are talking about the drive pump, this is located at the bottom of the machine, and accessing it is quite easy.

As a first thing disconnect the power cord, disconnect water lines and drain hose, and move the machine in a place where you can comfortably lean the machine on one side and support it to access the bottom of the appliance, where the pump is located. Also ensure that there is no water inside the machine before proceeding. If there is water inside the tub you will need to disconnect hose from the pump and collect water with a container while performing the procedure below.

Carefully tilt the machine and lay it down on its back. This is probably the most difficult part of the procedure, ensure that the machine is supported properly and start removing the two spring clamps that hold the pump and the two inlet and outlet hoses connected to the pump together.

Remove the two metal clips that hold the pump to the motor housing.

Slide off the pump and remove it.

Do all the operations described above in reverse order to install the new pump.

Before replacing the pump, ensure that the problem is not related to the hoses connected to the pump. Leaks and blockage problems are often caused by one of the hoses, rather than by the pump.

The pump is indicated with the arrow on diagram below, near to parts 30, 31 and 32. the clips are parts 30 and 31. The corrugated drain hose going to the tub is part number 32:

I have a Roper RTW4340SQ0 washer that leaks profusely when it fills and throughout the washing cycles. I've checked the water valve and all the hoses associated with it as well as the pump and all the...

This model is direct drive with a front mounted drain pump. The drain pump is THE most common leak location on these type washers! The pumps do NOT generally leak at the hoses, but from the impeller side between the pump and motor. There will be a telltale water mark on motor side of the pump shell. It can easily be fixed by popping the 2 retaining clips, removing the two drain hoses, and pulling off the old plastic pump, replacing it in the reverse order after cleaning the end of the motor shaft. Pumps run about 30 dollars. If you are sure this isn't the culprit, check for signs of leakage between the tub center and transmission, there is a tub gasket there. The tub itself, is not likey to leak, it is one piece with heat welded seams.Go to Youtube and search Whirlpool washing machine repairs, there are a number of instructional videos that show you exactly how to repair these machines and save yourself a lot of money. Incidentally Roper is built by Whirlpool, that's why I said search with that name.

Hope this sheds some light on the problem

Leaking from underneath the machine

If the washer leaks all the time, check these: Hot and cold water fill hoses - Check the hot and cold water hoses from the household plumbing. If either hose is leaking, tighten it or replace it, as appropriate. Main tub seal - The main tub seal is located between the transmission and the outer tub. It's the primary water seal in the outer tub for the transmission-shaft entry point. If this seal leaks, you can see the leak by opening up the machine's main access panel while the machine is full of water with a small amount of detergent in it. The leak appears at the underside of the outer tub, at or near the center. This seal is difficult to replace. You probably should call a qualified appliance repair technician. Pump - If the pump leaks, you can probably spot the leak when the tub is full of water. The pump has two or more black rubber or plastic hoses attached to it and usually has a drive belt that spins the pump. If the pump is leaking, you need to replace it.

There is a leak at bottom of washer what can it be?

Hello, The water pump recirculates water during the wash cycle and pumps it out for the spin cycle. Some washers use the recirculation to mix and distribute add-ins like bleach or fabric softener. In some models the spin cycle starts while the water is still in the tub; others drain first before the spin cycle starts.

For the the initial filling of the tub, the pump is not involved. Filling the tub is the job of the water inlet valve. The rinse cycle is also done with fresh water supplied by the inlet valve, although the water pump may be running simultaneously to remove the water while it is being added.

There are two types of pumps; direct drive and belt drive. The direct drive is mounted directly to the motor, the belt drive is mounted to the chassis. The direct drive style can be opened for complete inspection while belt drive models may or may not be designed to be opened. You can however, still remove the hoses and inspect the ports for a blockage or loose connections that may be causing a leak. Inspecting the pump is fairly easy to do, but you will most likely have to open the washer's cabinet.

Typically one of three problems occur with the pump. The first is a blockage in the pump, often from small items like a sock. The second possibility is that the impeller blades become broken or worn down and cannot move water efficiently. Next, in belt drive models, if the belt is loose or broken it does not turn the pump. Finally, Your pump may leak if there is a loose hose or cracked pump housing. In this case, it must be replaced.

Locate the pump, it will have two, three or four hoses. Label each hose and where it connects. The hoses should each have a wire clamp or a hose clamp with a screw. Pinch the wire tabs together with pliers and wiggle the clamp farther up the hose. Screw style hose clamps are simply loosened by turning the screw, then slide the clamp up the hose. Now remove the hose from the port.

Direct drive pumps have metal clips that hold the cover plate unto the pump assembly. Use a screwdriver to pry up the clips and remove the cover. Pull off the pump's impeller unit and inspect for damage.

Belt drive pumps vary and may or may not be designed to open for repair. Examine the pump to determine whether it can be opened. If it cannot be opened, look into the ports for any blockage.

If there are no blockages, the actual leak may be in a damaged hose or pump housing may be compromised. check all hoses for good connections and good hose integrity. if the hoses are not leaking, replace the pump.

Thanks

Water leaking from under washer

Hi

You'll need to open the machine and check for the leaks in the hose connected to the drain pump. Also check if the clamp connecting the drain filter and hose is tight. Also check these things for leaks---

Pump - If the pump leaks, you can probably spot the leak when the tub is full of water. The pump has two or more black rubber or plastic hoses attached to it and usually has a drive belt that spins the pump. If the pump is leaking, you'll need to replace it.

Please do rate this solution as FixYa if found useful and revert for further assistance.

Whirlpool wtw6400 rattling noise in final spin sounds like may be object in pump water is also leaking how to check and or replace

For this model washer there are two pumps. The pump on the right hand side of the washer is the DRAIN pump, while the pump on the left is the recirc pump (as viewed from the front of the washer). The easiest way to access the pump(s) is to either tilt the washer backwards and work from underneath, or remove the back panel. I usually remove the back panel, AND work from underneath, If something is caught in the pump, be prepared that you may have a damaged pump that requires replacement. To replace either pump follow these steps:

1. Unplug the washer.
2. Remove drain hose from the standpipe at the wall, and use a shop vac to pull a vacuum on the drain line to suction all the remaining water from the wash tub. There is quite a bit of water that remains in the wash tub that needs to be drained BEFORE removing any of the drain hoses (this is normal, by the way). Not draining the washer can be a very messy experience.
3. With the water drained, disconnect the electrical connections from the pump and loosen the mounting screws that hold the pump in place.
4. Remove the hose clamps and disconnect the two drain hoses from the pump.
5. With the pump removed, inspect the inlet side to see if anything is lodged in the impeller. Inspect the pump for any obvious signs of damage. It is common for nails, screws and drill bits to get caught in these pumps as small items like this will fit through the holes inside the wash tub.
6. Reinstall pump using the steps in reverse order. If the pump does not function, you will have to replace it.

A replacement pump can be ordered on line at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your COMPLETE model number (usually located along the wash tub opening) and the pump(s) will be located under the "Pump Parts" heading as either item number 1 (drain pump - part #W10049390) or 4 (recirc pump - part #8578573).

I hope you find this information helpful. If you require additional assistance, please let me know.

PS You can find these same pumps at repairclinic.com as well. The drain pump is a little more in price, but the recirc pump is listed a lot cheaper. Use the part number listed above for your search.

Leaking Washing machine

I would recommend you inspect the washer with the exterior cover removed, so you can actually see where the leak may be coming from. The following link explains how to replace a drain pump on a Kenmore. I submit this to you, because it not only explains how to remove the exterior case of the washer, but in the event that the pump is leaking, it gives you the necessary steps required to install a new one. The pumps are sealed units and not servicebale. If they leak, they need to be replaced:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r397094-replacing_water_pump

When you remove the exterior case, the washer will not operate without the lid switch by-passed. You will need to do this in order to fill the wash tub to see where the leak may be coming from. To by-pass the switch, you will need to unplug the washer and jumper the two black wires together at the lid switch connector on the timer. Use aligator clips on the connector pins to do this. With the lid switch by-passed, you can plug the washer back in and start a cycle.

Look for signs of leaking around the drain pump (located in the front under the wash tub) and all hoses. Also inspect the entire perimeter of the wash tub for any possible leaks. Generally, if you have a leak in the front of the washer, its a drain pump or drain hose connection. If you have a leak under the tub you may have a worn tub seal or cracked tub.

I hope you find this information helpful. Hopefully, you will not need any repair parts. If you have any questions, please let me know.

PS Use caution when operating the washer with the case removed. There are exposed electrical components and moving parts.
