My laptop keyboard hasn't been working for about 24 hours. At first, my laptop shift key seemed to be stuck because I was typing in all symbols instead of numbers like # instead of 3 or & instead of 7....

1. Boot to diags, Fn+Power see if the issue occurs in the diagnostics, If it does, you need a keyboard at a minimum. If it works normally, then it is a software setting.
2. Boot to Safe Mode F8 at boot, see if it works normally there. If not then check the regional and language settings and make sure they match the keyboard you have installed (US, UK or French Canadian Keyboard?)

How do I change from French keyboard?

Start / Settings / Control Panel / Regional and language options, check you have the language you want in there, then remove the additional (French) language.

This assumes you're running Windows XP. Vista or Windows 7 will be similar.

How do I shift to the blue key functions on the keyboard

I've run into this a lot myself and personally find it annoying more than useful. While typing, your punctuation keys suddenly switch to their french functions. By defaul, Vista assigns a keyboard shortcut fo changing input languages.

This shortcut is ctrl+shift - a very easy combination to press by mistake. To solve this problem, just press crtl+shift until you're back to english. You can change this shortcut or disable it all together.

Open the control panel then click "change keyboards or other input methods" under "clock, language and region". In the window that pops up, click "change keyboards..." then select the "advanced key settings" tab. This is where you can edit and disable language related shortcuts. To change one, click on the profile and then click "change key sequence". Under "switch keyboard layout", select "unassigned" to disable that shortcut.

Chose Canadin French instead of Canadian English by accident

Hello,
Yes you are right: it is a one time option. You can however install other languages. You will switch from the Canadian French keyboard to the US or English Canadian keyboard by pressing Shift Alt. You will console yourself if I told you that I type mainly in French, but the physical keyboard is US and I cannot even use the Alt + Ascii code to put the accents where due, because the laptop does not have numeric pad.

Hope it helps.

Keyboard buttons coming out with diffrent symbols to what i want

Hi,
You have your Num Lock on, look for the Num Lock key (should be located in the top right of the keyboard) press that key and your keyboard will return to normal.
Sometimes you have to hold down Fn or shift when you press the Num Lock key.

Good luck.
