Question about Compaq Presario Notebook

2 Answers

Model C320NR. Bottom of LCD display is inactive, dark with light vertical bands of variou colors, or light with dark bands. I replaced the LCD ribbon cable and that did not fix. Before the new cable I could wiggle the top and make the problem go away, but no more.

Since replacing the LCD is expensive, relative to the value of the computer, I would like a second opinion. Note that it the bottom 3 in. of the screen that is affected. The rest of the screen is okay. The cursor will not enter the effected bad area. I can get it all to work by giggling the screen and/or pressing on the bottom of the screen frame about 3 in. from the left edge.

Helpful because it opened a new line of correction. I have no idea how to reinstall the graphic driver, but will give it a try. The fact that pressing on the frame near the inverter connection to the cable does the trick implies a problem there. But with the frame off, I cannot detect anything going on there when I poke around. I paid only $200 for this laptop new three years ago, so will consider a new one.

The issue here is the LCD dsplay as a whole I would say back light until you said you have bands with diffrent colors.

what does this mean for you:

1. Replace the lcd display $125 bucks plus labor
2. Buy a new laptop
3. purchase a monitor and hook it up to the vga output (then you got yourself a big memory stick)

What you got is a defective display to say the least it needs to be replaced. now sure this is not going to get fixed with fixya.com But you can take thei nformation I give you to the bank that your issue is your display.

Consider the facts here your solution was FREE you paid nothing for it. all we ask you do is rate the solution and leave feedback and going forward tell people about how awesome fixya was.

THANK YOU!!!

That choice is yours it still is going to need parts and repair no matter what the secound opinion is remeber to rate the first opinion if the secound one does not fit your needs. As the first one should get the benifit of the doubt if you do not like the secound.

you never siad anything about jiggleing to me until you rejected my solution but fine the things needs to be opned then you might have a bad contacton the inverter board!

Vertical line on screen

Hi, This is a problem that's far too common among flat-panel and projection LCD TV's?and it's generally known as "vertical banding." If the lines are there all the time or intermittent but in the same location it is an indication of a bad panel. The panel driver can also be the cause of this symptom. Samsung panels have had issues with the connector that carries the LVDS signals to the panel itself, this is not serious and can be resolved and little cost. These faint vertical bars (often most apparent when the screen is totally dark or displaying a solid background, like the sky) are defects that occur during the manufacturing process, and while the worst offenders are typically screened out, many more make it to store shelves. Since you've pinpointed the banding and it's driving you nuts, also its under warranty, call the manufacturer and demand a replacement; in most cases, they'll capitulate and send you a new set, although you'll probably have to go to the trouble of packing and shipping back your defective TV (make sure the manufacturer covers your shipping costs). The screen has colored vertical lines and becomes to a dark black band about 6 inches of width. The tv is exactly two years old by today.

My 3-year old 52-inch Toshiba flat panel TV (Model # 52RV53U, Serial # AM409000295) developed a display problem (purchased Aug. 2008, manufactured July 2008). Vertical multicolored lines appeared on the screen just left of center. The band of thin vertical bars is 5.5 inches wide. The lines are about 1/16-inch wide. They are stationary, always exactly in same place. They over-ride any other picture on the screen (no transparency). They are there all time even with no video inputs to the TV after the unit is turned on. See picture #1. The TV works well in every other respect, but, obviously, it is annoying to watch the picture with the color band blocking about 1/6 of the picture.

I already swapped out the TCON board with no improvement and replugged the TCON board cables with no improvement.

Most likely it is the flat panel tab bond failure (panel made by Samsung). Further solution updates will be on my Facebook page.

Vertical white wide band - Shivering fonts

Unfortunately that sound like a defective LCD panel. You can verify this by plugging the system into an external monitor. As long as the shimmering band does not appear on external display then it is the LCD. If it is under warranty I would suggest taking it into Apple.

Dark Grey Vertical Bar

1. try connecting laptop to an external monitor and check if this vertical dark gray bar appears. if yes it means video is the problem. you need to boot in safe mode then uninstall the video driver. boot to notmal mode then download and install the latest video driver. if still same problem then replace video card. if video is built in with motherboard you need to replace motherboard.

2. when the vertical dark gray bar did not appear in the external monitor then it means issue is with the LCD panel. Do this turn off laptop. press and hold D key then press Power button at the same time or Press and hold on the Fn key then Power button check if the test will run. Color displays full screen when you keep pressing on N key when the colors appears check the vertical dark gray bar if still exist in the test, this means LCD panel and LCD cable needs to be replaced.

KDS K717s 17" LCD Monitor

The white screen tells me that the display cable (inside your monitor) may be unattached or broken.
The color bands if they are vertical or horizontal lines tell me that your display cable needs to be replaced.

So overall replace your display cable. If this doesn't entirely fix the problem your logic board (inside the monitor) needs to be replaced.
