I installed the Logitech QuickCam Communicate STX using the newest installer for Windows Vista from Logitech's website.Right after installation, the camera and in-built microphone both worked.
After a restart of the system the next day, the video still works, the microphone doesn't.the QuickCam software will record video, but no sound, Skype complains there is no recording device, and I canät access the camera#sin-builtmicrophone by any means--the hardware assistant does not find it, the QuickCam software has the audio options disabled and has no 'test microphone' button or similar.
In addition, WIndows itself complains about the device again when I start the computer. Windows wants me to install a driver for the camera. The driver is installed, but not though the hardware assistant -- the installation software from Logitech, qc1150.exe fromhttp://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/435/35... comes as an executable, not as a driver package I could feed to the hardware assistant.
Again -- I have no way of troubleshooting the microphone, and it just ceased working from one day to the next.

    Help greatly appreciated.

I have a great Logitech Pro 9000; which worked fine 2 months ago. Now it doesn't record videos ( I get Error Code 0x000001fe). The audio works fine, and I'm able to take snap shots. I've un-installed and re-installed about 10 times; tried soooo many things. I'm out of ideas.

I have a dual boot system Vista Home Premium 64 bits and Vista Enterprise 64 bits. I install the logitech quickcam communicate STX in the Vista Enterprise and I work find for several months until the last updated. After the last updated the microphone stop working. I un-install and re-install couple time with no lock. I called logitech technical support and after tried couple time following the instructions from logitech, the microphone is still not working. To check if was the bad hardware, I install the latest version 11.80 in the Vista Home Premium 64 and work fine.

Openning the Volume Mixer under Recording Device the Logitech Microphone show there but I can't be selected. Looking the properties, the Level tab is blank. Boot in Vista Home, this Level tab show a slide to adjust the volume. Looking in the device manager shows the microphone is working propertly. I know that is a configuration problem, but I don't know what is.

Why isn't the microphone on my camera working?
logitech quick cam communicate stx on Vista - micr - trnsp.gif Answer The microphone may not work because of a hardware or configuration problem. To determine if it's a hardware problem, test the microphone in Sound Recorder.

  1. Click "Start," > "Programs" ("All Programs" for Windows XP) > "Accessories" > "Entertainment" > "Sound Recorder."
  2. Click the Record button and speak into the microphone of the camera. You should see the green line move, indicating the application is picking up sound.
  3. Click the Stop button.
  4. Click the Play button. If there is no sound at playback, check to make sure the correct device is selected.
    1. Click "Edit," then "Audio Properties."
    2. Make sure Logitech is listed as the Preferred device for "Sound recording."
The microphone may also be defective. To test this, try the camera on another USB enabled system.
If you can record sound in Sound Recorder, but not in the QuickCam application, try setting the Logitech Microphone as the Preferred device in Audio Properties.

Built in Microphone doesn't work in AIM, Windows Live Messanger

You would be surprised at how many people don't realize that each application has it's own configuration screen.

It's not the end-users fault - like you said... the instructions could be a BIT more clear.

Logitech QuickCam STX vista compatibility?

when you were installing the software did a taskbar pop up appear and tell you that hardware was found, and then proceeded to install the cam and inform you that the Logitech STX is now installed and ready for use? If not then the cam may need to be tried in another usb port as of yet it has not been recognised by windows. Also if this is being used on a laptop, sometimes there is not enough power amps being sent be the usb port to recognise, again trying a different port may solve that. If all else fails re install the software again, but make sure windows is allowing the cam to work, as sometimes there is an updater programme that works in conjunction with the cam to update drivers etc, this will probably be being dissalowed by either windows or your internet security programme and any part of the software that is being blocked may be stopping your cam also.

Logitech QuickCam STX vista compatibility?

Have you updated DirectX?, I'm not sure if Vista has DX9.0 or 9.0c, but you could try and update DirectX before you install the cam software. Also if the cam is usb, did you install the software "before" connecting the cam?, some people aren't aware that usb devices have to have the software installed first, before connecting the device.
