USB hubs operate at 5V DC power, as do a lot of things on your motherboard do. They are able to transmit DC power to a device which makes it possible for items to be plugged straight into a USB port and not have an external power supply. It sounds as though the main connection between the USB points and the power supply has become broken, as a lot of USB points are connected in series to save space. Also, one point on the USB line could have possibly become grounded. A fewer simple measurements with an OHM reader may help in this situation.

What happen if I put an Apple hard drive to a microsoft pc?

Disconnect all drives, all usb devices and remove all pci cards. You should have nothing connected to the system board except for the power supply, keyboard and screen.

Turn off main switch at the rear of the system and press and hold the on button on the front for about 5 seconds. This will discharge residual power in the power supply and on the system board.

Turn on the main switch at the rear and then press the on button.

Please reply with the system's behavior. You should expect the bios screen. Ignore any errors that come up at this point.

A solid orblinking Amber power button indicates a voltage problem. This can be caused bya defective power supply or a defective motherboard. Just to make sure thatnothing else is causing the problem, remove any PCI cards like modem, videocard, sound card, etc... Remove the memory modules and disconnect cables toCD/DVD drives. Look at the USB ports to see if any are damaged.

Before calling it quits on the motherboard, try disconnecting ALL non-essential devices from the motherboard.

This includes drive cables, all slot mounted cards, etc.

Leave the processor and ram in place. Make sure ALL power cords from the power supply to the motherboard are properly plugged in. Some power supplies have 2 cords to the motherboard, a large plug and possibly a separate 4 pin that plugs in near the CPU. After checking your plugs, see if the board will power up. If so, you should get some beeps or status lights. If not, then it is likely the board has failed. Since you have replaced the original power supply, (assuming the replacement is compatible), it is not likely you have 2 bad power supplies.

If the board DOES power up, then plug in 1 internal device at a time to determine what might be "killing" the boot. A bad hard drive or DVD/CD drive can cause this as well as a shorted USB or firewire device.

EMachine T3958 Won't start - Please help

You need a voltmeter to check the supplies

5vdc & 12vdc are the two easiest becasue they are are the ones which are on the connector which supplies the Hard Drive you have just replaced

Red is 12v Positive Yellow is 5v Positive and the black wire is Neutral

You can remove the main board connector from the power supply to the MB but you need a copy of the Motherboard installation manual to tell you what supplies are on that connector

It is a little hard to tell, I dont think its a psu problem.
I have seen something similar when a cpu/motherboard went faulty. (Older machine could not get either cpu or motherboard to test)
Also worth checking your ram is seated correctly.

Sounds like there maybe some kind of problem with *********** board connector. Double check that it is the right size, and be sure there are no places that still need power. When you get the chance I'd check the following:
Disc Drives
Motherboard
Floppy
Hard Drives
That all cards are secure, if there are any loose connectors your comp will declare "short circuit". At that point, unplug the cord from the mother board (the power cable) and try again.
Any USB Cables
Anything that looks loose, and finally, recheck the compatibility with your system.

Good Luck!!!
