CPU upgrade for Compaq SR1220NX Desktop Computer

Hi
The specs for this machine state that it is a motherboard with
"Socket 478 for Intel P4 Williamette and Northwood processors
Supports Intel Pentium 4 processor up to 2.8 GHz
Supports Intel Celeron processor up to 3.06 GHz (Prescott based Celeron with 533MHz FSB)"
In other words, any CPU that is not socket 478 ( a fairly old socket now) will not even fit on the board. You do not mention your current CPU so you need to compare it with the spec above to see if you can improve it. It is an old machine/motherboard, so your money might be better going towards a motherboard or system box upgrade.
Cheers

I have a compaq presario 6370us and i turn it on and it says ntldr is missing i dont kno how to fix it it is 10 or 11 years old

Ntldr usually reffers to a missing or corrupt partion or hard drive, if you have not changed anything physically in side the computer I would put my money on a faulty hard drive, just buy a new hard drive and reinstall windows. This should work, be warned you may find it difficult to find old drivers so maybe search for them first.

I have an HP Pavilion a335w computer. It's running a P4 2.5GHz processor (Northwood A80532) 512 L2 with a 100MHz FSB. It has a TriGem Glendale motherboard, PGA478 socket, and it's maxed at 1MB RAM. How...

I have a Compaq that came with this board and a celeron 1.8 or 2.0 I believe. The fastest P4 that will run is a Intel Northwood 2.8 Ghtz 400 FSB nothing ELSE! Northwood 2.8 is the fastest 400 FSB, the boards chipset won't run anything faster than 400 FSB. Mine is running, Win 7 the Northwood P4 2.8 with 2 gigs ram, 160 gig HD and a 256 video card for over 5 years (minus win 7, had XP before with no issues. Good for light gaming, web surfing and MS office! Add a Zotac 512 MB PCI or Sparkle Video card and you can handle most more medium gaiming out today!

  • * 768 MB RAM
  • * A 128 MB Video Card, with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
  • * At least 4 GB of hard drive space, with at least 1 GB additional space for creations.
Everything seems good, the only thing is how much HD space you have.

MB ports no longer working

Does the probem persist even if you disconnect the USB headphone? If it does, then it points to problems somewhere else in your system. If it does not, then it's very likely that the USB headphone itself is the cause.

USB headphones aren't like headphones that you just plug into your soundcard. USB headphones has their own "soundcard" that's built into the device itself. Thus USB headphones will work regardless of whether or not you had another soundcard installed. This is usually USB headphone's benefit, not being dependent on other soundcards and having its own discreet settings.

In your case though, it's also likely that the USB headphone's driver itself is causing conflicts with other parts of the system. If this is the case, it would explain why your system is freezing.

As far as the longevity of the motherboard itself... these days computer chips are producing so much heat, it's very likely that motherboards/CPU/memorhy do not last longer than 3~5 years. The parts simply break down much faster than they used to.

UPGRADING USB 1.1 TO USB 2

I searched and found a 1/2 height PCI card with 2 USB ports, plus a internal connector for two more ports. My little NetVista will not hold a full-height PCI card. Get out your tin snips.
Works like a charm !
FYI: I disabled the BIOS USB support for the old ports, and plugged the old MB cable into the new PCI card. I now have two 2.0 ports on the front, and two 2.0 ports on the back. However, I lost the ability to boot from USB

VIA P4V845 CHIPSET MOBO FOR iNTEL p4 CPU PROBLEMS

Hi, USB issues - Probably the BIOS. Have you checked the BIOS version? VIA P4V845? Also I get the impression that P4V845 have 2 versions, SX & SM, that it is an Intel chipset based mb and not VIA and that it was probably by one of the OEM vendors for Pc Partner. In any case, should you want to flash/update your BIOS, this might be of help to you > http://www.wimsbios.com/phpBB2/topic8315-15.html Good luck and kind regards.
