microsoft have stopped supporting windows xp some time ago
best to delete from the computer and buy and install windows 7
I have been told that you can't have 2 operating systems running on the same hard drive and this may be causing the conflict
Do a clean installation from CD rather than simply doing a system restore. There's less chance for something to go wrong with a clean installation. The Stop: c0000218 (registry file failure) error is typically associated with one of several things, depending on how far through the recovery process you made it before encountering the error.
You get this message from a corrupt or damaged registry or corrupt or missing drivers, or both. Unless you have made a full backup of the operating system and data, without the XP disc I don't know of any way you can fix this. See if a friend has the same operating system disk. If all else fails a reputable repair person can solve this.
