Question about HP Color Copier 155 Copier

HP 155 color copier "out of paper" but there is paper in tray

When we try to make a copy we get an error message of out of paper. It sounds like the rollers are not picking up the paper. We took out and cleaned the paper tray assembly, but it still doesn't grab the paper.

I have already tried the trouble-shooting steps in the user guide:
removed the paper tray and cleaned the rollers. I ran a piece of sandpaper through to try and abrade the rollers so they would grab.
    That didn't help.

It seems that the switch to lift the tray to grab a sheet of paper doesn't trigger. Can I buy a replacement switch (where?) instead of junking the whole copier? It was an expensive copier, well maintained, used lightly. Even though there are newer shinier models out now, when it works this copier does what I need it for, and it's paid for, along with an inventory of inks that fit only this model.

I tried to find a service manual online. Do you know where I can find the repair manual given to the technicians?

The previous expert sent me a page on paper jamming from the HP user manual. I already stated that it's not a paper jam issue: my problem is that the paper does not feed. I get an Out of Paper error message. I have tried every troubleshooting tip in the user manual. I need a technician's repair manual or advice from an HP technician who knows how to fix or replace the tray lift switch. Thank you.

I think the switch or spring assemble needs to be replaced. Where can I get one and how do I install it?

If I could get a hold of the technician's manuel and the piece, I might be able to replace it myself.

My local repairman suggests throwing out the whole copier and getting a new one, but I'm sure it could be fixed with a 10¢ replacement spring.

    Thanks
    Julie

I've had the copier for 4 years. The problems seems to be that the tray lift spring is not lifting the tray high enough for the paper feeder to grab. How do I fix or replace the spring? I don't want to dump a $2000 copies for a 10¢ part.

    thanks

Hi,

If you are using your copier for the first time, the scanner may be locked and you should unlock it as in the picture below.

Hope this helps.

Dear Hootholler,
In paper tray assembly, there is a spring type part or assembly, which helps to touch papers, to the roller... ensure that spring assembly is also working fine.... without this spring assembly roller will not be able to grab the paper....

check all areas for any paper jam, also check the feed roller in the paper trays if the roller are slick with paper dust, clean them and then reinstall the paper. Sounds like a paper sensor is not been cleared. then the error message, should go away on reboot.

Open up the top and look into the cartridge/paper print area. Look in the corners, Sometimes little pieces of paper can still be stuck there. Once you are convinced that the paper and cartridge path is clear then...

Pull out the paper tray. Look inside the opening. If there is paper there then pull it out.

Take all of the paper out of the paper tray.
Turn it over (paper on top is now on the bottom of the tray)

Try it now.

Paperjams

Sounds like the pick up rollers are worn or dirty.
You can try to clean them with alcohol.
When you pull the tray out the rollers
should be towards the front of the printer.

Paper feed issues

The problem is what you already stated, the rollers are too smooth so they are not grabbing the paper to feed it.

Try this : clean with alcohol and a clean cloth very well and make a copy it will probably make one or two then jam.

order the tires and replace. should cost you about $20
