Hi.

I cannot understand what you exactly mean when you say that you "can almost see the menu".

If the picture is very dim or dark, and you can only barely see the the on screen menu, then the culprit may be the lamp, the ballast , the optical group, and digital board (eg faulty white balance circuit).

This fault is quite uncommon, and the TV will need to be tested by a technician.

The first part to check is the lamp. Even if the lamp is turned on, in rare occasions you may have a defective lamp, and that may cause the problem.
Testing the lamp with a replacement is the first thing that will be probably done at a workshop, but it may not be convenient from user point of view. The lamp is expensive, and it is not necessarily the problem.

The high voltage board that supplies power to the lamp must be tested. This is called ballast board or lamp power board, and it is connected directly to the lamp.

If lamp and ballast are OK, the next part to test is the optical group and light engine. This is one of the most expensive parts on TV, and it is likely causing the problem, since lamp or ballast causing the problem is quite unlikely.

Making the point of the situation this looks like an uncommon fault that is difficult to diagnose and repair.

As a first thing I suggest calling Hitachi customer care, ringing the number listed on the owners manual. If they offer an affordable repair, better to get a technician to work on TV.

    Hi.

The ballast does not cause blurred picture, and does not cause picture and no sound.

I am afraid that you have a faulty DMD board or light engine, or a faulty digital board. The light engine cannot be tested in a simple way. The digital board is tested reading low volts on diagnostic pins indicated in the service manual for the specific model.

The service manual is available here:Tv Repair Kits :: Service Manuals :: Hitachi :: 60VS810

Hi,It sounds like it could be the ballast. The ballast is the board that powers the lamp. The ballast is the one that lets you know if lamp is not responding or if it's not able to power the lamp. This is the most common failure it's symptoms are exactly like the lamp it will, flicker, not turn on at all,get lamp indicator, usually you will hear clicking or attempts to light up the lamp. The ballast is a simple fix and cost less than the price of the lamp,it's usually sitted right next to the lamp.I have a video for a samsung on how to replace it ,it's the same procedure: http://www.fixyourdlp.com/guides/samsung/bp47-00033a.php Found the one you need here:http://greenchip.shopjimmy.com/catalog/product/view/id/169785/s/hitachi-ballast-ha01331/ Have a bless one!

Hi,What do you mean by blurry? You get a picture that's blurry, with weird colors?

  • Antonio Cruz Apr 30, 2010

The ballast is what gives the lamp it's brightness if you are getting a very dim picture is because the ballast is not providing enough power to provide a full brightness.

  • Antonio Cruz Apr 30, 2010

yes,you can check if ballast is providing the right voltage (15,000 volts/15 kv)

Flashes of blue light are fault indications. From the number of flashes occurs at one time switch on, you can get an idea about the faulty section circuit board inside. If you wish to get details about these blinks, check this link.

More than likely, it is the bulb. My hitachi 50v715 would come on(light up and show picture) 3 to 30 sec's with out the lamp indictor even lighting up. Put a new bulb in and works great. So I would try a new bulb. Look in your manual for the bulb number. Buy an original hitachi bulb they last a little longer.

How many hours on the lamp timer?  If 10,000 or more the lamp is approaching end of life and should be replaced.  Lamp will dim when approaching end of life rather than just go out.
