Hi, it's really easy. Remove the left casing by pressing the hatch on the back. Remove the data and power cables from the back of the cd rom. Then remove the front besel (the plastic one - just the colored one around the CD) then you have to press both sides (next to the cd bay) and pull it out. Then take out the plastics and then do this procedure the other way aournd for the new hard cd rom. I hope this helps. Don't forget to rate and provide positive feedback for our fast-free response today. Thank you :D

I need to change hard drive. Does anyone know the proceedure?

you will need to format new hard drive to FAT32. then depending on system cd rom or no cd rom. with out cd rom both hard drives need to be in FAT32. can be done on a PC with FAT32 for large hard drive or down load FAT32 formatter any one will do to format the drive. then download the firmware and put just the 3 folder files on to the hard drive bin file etc. then put the drives back in the system. switch on and it shall do the rest takes about 10min. Now system with cd rom. down load the firm wear for your system. format the new hard drive so it is split into two drives both in FAT32. after this is done put into the system. burn the files for the firmware onto a disk and put in the cd rom on the system. and switch on the system and hold down camera 2 for 5-10seconds then the cd rom should load and put files on to the system and start up can take upto an hour depending on the size of the hard drive you are putting in. that should be it firm ware is available from the down loads and support on the Dedicated Micros web site.

CD/DVD Is Not Recognized
spacer.gif spacer.gif spacer.gif spacer.gif Many times, after inserting a disc into the CD or DVD drive, the disc is not recognized by that drive. CD-read and DVD-read issues can be caused by many sources. Perform the procedures presented in this General Computer Advice article when troubleshooting CD-read and DVD-read issues.

Begin with the first procedure and continue through the list. Try using the CD or DVD after each procedure is completed. For any procedure that requires changing current system settings, record the original settings before completing the procedure.
  1. Verify that the correct disc (CD/DVD) is used when prompted to insert the disc.
  2. For programs on DVD, verify that the drive containing the DVD is a DVD drive and not a CD-ROM drive. Most DVD drives will haveDVD printed on the front of the drive. For programs on DVD, consider the following:
  • DVD drives can read both DVD's and CD's.
  • CD-ROM drives can read only CD's.
  1. If multiple disc drives (e.g., CD-ROM and CD-RW, or DVD and DVD-RW, or CD-ROM and DVD-RW, etc.) exist on the computer that can read the disc (refer to the items under Step 2), insert the CD or DVD into the other drive and try the program again.
  2. If you are attempting to install a program and the installation does not begin after inserting the CD/DVD into the proper drive, refer to the program's instructions for the installation procedure.
  3. Clean the CD/DVD in the following manner:
  1. Place a small amount of nonabrasive liquid soap on the shiny side of the CD/DVD.
  2. Using your fingertips and warm water, gently rub the soap on the CD/DVD in a circular motion.
  3. Rinse the CD/DVD thoroughly and dry it using a clean, soft T-shirt or lint-free towel. (Do not use paper towels or tissue paper.)
  1. Try to use a different CD or DVD in the drive to see if that disc can be read.
  2. If possible, insert the problem CD or DVD into the DVD or CD drive of another computer to see if the issue persists.

Insert the windows disk in the CD-Rom drive in the computer, then press F12 when you first turn it on. keep pressing it until a menu appears. In the menu, select whichever option is the CD-Rom drive. then follow the onscreen instructions to install Windows.

Install new hard drive

If all that you are doing is replacing the hard-drive then you only need to do the following as the Dell cases are a screwless design and only require you to:
  • pop the case open,
  • disconnect the drive and power cables, (noting these for reassembly later)
  • push the green drive rail tabs inward toward the drive, and
  • remove the drive from the case.
Next you'll need to replace the hard drive.
Tools needed:
  • Philips head screwdriver, or
  • Nut driver.
Procedure:
  • Take the old hard drive to a flat space, ideally a workbench and unscrew the four mounting screws from the drive rails.
  • Take your new hard drive out of its Anti-Static bag and begin to put the drive rails back on the new drive.
  • If this is the only drive in the PC I suggest you set the drive to being the Master drive on the IDE bus. If you do not know what this means google the drive model (on the label on the hard-drive) and you'll find details of how to set up the drive to be the master on the IDE bus.
When the above procedure is complete you'll need to re-insert the drive back into computer case. That is simply reversing the procedure you used to take it out of the case.

Finally you'll need to reboot the computer and go into the BIOS to ensure that the drive is being seen and is of the correct size.
Lastly you'll need to pop in the OS CD-ROM and rebuild the system.
Note that on some of the early GX150's there was a problem with the firmware of the CD-ROM that allowed you to load the OS, reboot and then the installation would hang as the OS could not read the hardware due to an incompatibility. This can be solved by simply replacing the GX150 CD-ROM with another CD-ROM during the build and then putting the old CD-ROM back in place after the final reboot of the PC before you log on for the first time.

Hope this is of some help from a newby solution provider.
Sincerely
Andrew Martin

Windows XP Unsuccessful on Start Up

no you just need to fix your bios problem, if you dont have the manual take the battery out of the motherboard that keeps power to the bios keep it out for a few minutes put it back in then turn it on it should go to bios automatically then just go to set best defaults for ststem hit y for yes then hit enter and it should take off fine if it dont then you need to take it to a pro who can reset it for you manually or reprogram it that would be cheapest for you without trashing it.
