The Brush Motor on my Bissell Healthyhome Vacuum wont start

The Brush Motor on my Bissell Healthyhome Vacuum will not reset. I have cleared the brushes of obstructions, checked the belt, and still nothing. There is NO trip or reset button on this model at least externally. Is there any way to reset this manually, or a solution that ANYONE can offer, or am I S.O.L.?

I had this same problem. There is a screw that holds the top handle and the lower handle "together". If this screw is not TOTALLY tightly screwed in, this will cause the contacts in the switch to BREAK contact, and therefore one or BOTH motors may not start, or cut in and out. This was the fix for me.

Found the screw in the back of the handle. Sure enough, it was loose. I tightened it down, and it works great now. Thanks!

Is the grey "brush" button on the handle turned on? Brush won't turn otherwise.

Had the same issue, tightened the screw on the back between top handle and unit and it works perfectly.

A vacuum repairmans recommendation to install a $100 computer chip just did not sound right. The beater brush sporadically worked. Tightened the screws you stated and the vacuum works perfectly.

No there is no separate fuse, when you did this you caused the drive motor to overheat, this destroyed the belt as you have seen and likely burned out the motor for the brush head..

The brush will not rotate. I thought this was a direct drive system.

Note: The brush will not rotate when the machine is locked in the upright position, because an internal micro-switch turns the brush motor off.

- Check the belt through the clear brush cover. If this appears damaged or broken, please take your machine to a local BISSELL Authorized Service Center to have this replaced. If the belt is intact, please continue checking the following:
- Ensure both power switches are turned on when you check for brush rotation.
- Unplug the power cord and remove the handle completely. Slide handle back into the lower section of handle, ensuring the screw is in tight. If the handle is not aligned properly, this will affect the power of the brush motor.
- Look for debris wrapped around the brush (i.e. string, hair, fibers, etc.). When the machine is unplugged, cut away any visible hair, fibers or debris from the brush roller. This brush is NOT removable from the machine.
- If something has become lodged in the foot and the brush shuts off, turn off the vacuum and unplug this from the outlet. You can now remove the obstruction. The brush will automatically reset when the vacuum is plugged in and turned back on.

If you continue to experience difficulty with this, please take your machine to the following Service Center in your area. The warranty on this machine is five years.

Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial.

Most Bissell vacuums have Thermal Motor Protection which is a built in safety system that stops the machine if it begins to overheat. This usually happens because the filter needs washing or your machine is blocked. If your machine turns off on its own, unplug it and leave it for at least an hour to cool down. Remember to check the filter and look for blockages before re-starting. When the motor cools for approximately 30 minutes, the thermal protector automatically resets and cleaning may continue. If the cleaner will not turn on or the thermal protector continues to activate, your cleaner may need servicing.note: the thermal protector controls the main vacuum motor only, not the brush motor. If the thermal protector activates, the brush will continue to operate normally; however, there will be no suction.
