Question about Kenmore HE2 Plus Front Load Washer

1 Answer

Kenmore HE2. Won't drain. I have gotten the screws off and the panel removed. I see a large round white (I guess the pump/filter thing) with a straight plastic piece across the center. When I try and turn counterclockwise by that straight thing I can't turn it. Is it "normally" really hard to turn? Am I doing it wrong? Do I need to rent a husband? Any help is appreciated.

Thank you so very much. I don't know what channel locks are but I used a pair of pliers wrapped in normal tape then put a towel under them and FINALLY got it to turn. After a couple pans of water, about a buck in change and then found the REAL culprit. Few months ago started using those new Laundry "Sheets". Look like a dryer sheet but thicker. They have detergent built in them and you can throw them in the dryer with your wet clothes and they double as a dryer sheet. Ironic thing is I've never used dryer sheets but liked the Laundry "Sheets" because they seemed efficient; no mess, no measuring. Well one somehow got through to the drain things and mucked it all up.
Ran one Rinse/Drain cycle and all seemed fine. Have a big load in now of sheets, etc. Hoping it goes well.

Never did see an a rubber O ring...Hmmm. Hoping it just didn't have one.

Did not have the $$ to fix this and have been doing laundry at friends. You have helped a single mom and 2 girls so much.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

You are referring to the drain pump reservior. Yes, they can be difficult to remove sometimes as they have a tight seal. Before you attempt to go any further read through the following link on checking the drain pump:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3574284-checking_the_drain_pump_on_a_front_loade

This may provide you with some helpful tips on how to avoid a mess of water coming from the wash tub, drain pump and lines.

If the cap will not come off, and has an open style handle, you can use a screwdriver for leverage. Place the screwdriver in the handle and CAREFULLY turn in a counter-clockwise direction to remove. If the handle is closed, I have found that a set of channel locks (looks like a large set of pliers) can give you the necessary leverage to pop the seal loose. Cover the teeth of the channel locks with electrical tape to prevent marring the pump handle. Again, exercise caution so that you do not break the handle off. Once you have the cap removed, use petrolium jelly on the rubber o-ring and seal the cap tight. The petrolium jelly will help keep the seal, but will make it easier to remove the next time you need to clean it.

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

Some drain pumps have an o-ring some don't. You can still lubricate the threads of the cap with petrolium jelly and serve the same purpose. I don't know who's bright idea it was to create Laundry sheets, but you aren't the first person I've helped that found them clogging the drain pump and/or drain lines. It seems they are more trouble than they are worth. Probably should recommend that consumers stop using them. I hope things continue to work for you. Keep me in mind if you have any more problems.

Won't finish cycle 21 F- flashing on panel

F21 error code is indicating that it is taking too long to drain water.

Your details indicate that you are using too much detergent or the wrong type of detergent and causing excessive suds. The drain pump can not pump suds out. The washer requires HE (High Efficiency) detergent formulated for front loading washers.

Cut back on the detergent and it will most likely operate correctly.

NOTES:
* After four (4) minutes the "Sd" error will be displayed, and then four (4) minutes later the "F21" error code will be displayed.
* Press STOP two (2) times to clear the display.

Possible Causes:
- Using too much High Efficiency (HE) detergent and causing too much suds.
- Using NON-HE detergent causing too much suds.
- Kink in drain hose
- Debris or foreign objects in drain pump filter.

The drain filter is located behind the lower access panel.

NOTE: Disconnect the power cord before removing the lower access panel and cleaning out the drain pump filter.

Remove the two screws (key#21) securing access panel. The filter cap (key#14) is removed by turning it counter clockwise. NOTE: Be sure that all the water has pump out before removing the cap. Have some large towels handy because there will be water coming out the filter/pump once you remove the cap. Check and clean the filter and remember to reduce the amount of detergent and the washer should perform as designed

My kenmore elite mod 42832 has a error code f2 does not drain or spin

Hi
Error F2 appears after 8mins of SUDs error. Error F02 means Long drain, means washer is taking longer time than normal to drain. Press PAUSE/CANCEL twice to clear the display. NOTE: After 4 minutes the SUD error will be displayed, and then 4 minutes later the F02 error code will be displayed.
? Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked.
? Check the electrical connections at the pump and make sure the pump is running.
? Check the drain pump filter for foreign objects.
? If the above does not correct the problem, replace the pump.

There are 3 small 9/32 hex head screws that hold the front panel on. Unscrew the 3 hex head screws (9/32 socket or nut driver size), now remove the front kick panel. Unscrew the white drain cap -WARNING-- lots of water will drain out when you loosen the white cap. Once all the water is out, remove and take out the filter trap.
Hope this helps... Please post back for more information

What is f21 on the kenmore he2

Hi,
"F21" is a Long Drain error. This occurs when the drain time exceeds 8 minutes. You will need to remove the bottom panel under the door by removing the two screws at the bottom edge of the panel. First, check the electrical connections to the drain pump and make sure the pump is running. Check the drain pump filter to make sure it is not clogged with debris. This is a very common problem. HINT: Before removing the drain pump filter, pull the drain hoses from the standpipe at the wall and use a shop vac to pull a vacuum on the drain hose to get rid of all residual water from the pump and drain lines. This is also a good way to get rid of minor clogs. If you do not own a shop vac, be prepared to lay down some old towels and soak up some water. There's quite a bit of residual water in the wash tub and lines (this is normal). In addition, check your drain hoses to make sure they are not clogged or kinked. If you check everything and still have the error code, replace the drain pump. Replacement parts can be found at searspartsdirect.com and repairclinic.com. Just type in your model number in the search menu. I hope this helps you.
pls rate my suggestion....

Yes, it will. There are two screws holding the bottom panel in place that you will need to remove first. Your pump may be constructed differently than the full size HE models. If you do not have a clean out trap, unplug the washer and remove the pump. Flush it with water to clean out the impeller. DO NOT submerge the motor portion in water, however. If you have to remove the pump, just disconnect the electrical connections and the inlet and drain hoses. DO NOT remove the hose from the bottom of the wash tub. Disconnect all hoses from the pump only. In my past experience, this particular hose is a real bear to get back on. You may not have to do all this. I include these instructions, however, because some of the small front loaders do not have a clean out trap on the drain pump. I hope this helps you. Let me know if you have further questions.
