Question about Marantz SR-880 Mark II Receiver

1 Answer

I have a Marantz SR 880 mkII. My signal comes into the house from cable. How do I hook up the cable to the audio/video receiver and then all the other equipment I have? Is there a diagram (in simple language) that shows how to do this? Thank you Bob M

MY bad. The cable from the cable box is the same 75 ohm cable that goes into the box. It seems I need a converter to go from cable to RCA plug .. or something.

    Thanks

Do you mean without a cable box? You can't.

If you have a cable box it should have some form of compatible audio outputs. OUTs go to INs.

The answers regarding setup would be in both devices' manuals. Digital inputs must be assigned. The unidentified DVD player and the discs it plays all have audio selections.

My sr 7005 loses a signal for 2 seconds when watching a bluray or cable

It takes two, maybe more to tango - plus the cables that carry the various signals.

Can you define the signal loss better? Where do you detect it?

Audio, video, both?
Optical, HDMI, component ????

Try a different input or output port on the Marantz to isolate the source(s) as contributors.

What would work better for Marantz SR 4200 Apple Composite or component cable? In order to play music through the amp as well as watching videos

Component Video is a big step up the food chain in quality. Component Video inputs are for video only, not for audio. I don't see Component Video inputs on the Marantz SR-4200; only Composite and S-Video. S-video would be a step up from Composite and it carries analog stereo sound.

You don't give any clues as to the source's audio capabilities.

Digital Audio of either flavor is preferable. Grab the best possible TV-related audio from your Cable/Satellite box to the Marantz and run a pair of RCA audio cables to your TV just in case you want to watch the weather channel without hi-fi sound.

Remove the HDMI cable (out) to the speakers from the receiver.
Connect regular speaker wire from the receiver to the speakers.
Of course, remove the (now extra) HDMI cable from the tv.
That will remove the loop.

Do you know the remote code for the Marantz SR-18ex receiver? I want to control it from my Comcast remote and can't locate a remote control number.

The stock remote for the SR-18EX is the RC-18SR - that's the one it shipped with when new. You can also use the RC-2000, RC2000 MkII, and I have an aftermarket RC-1400 that works perfectly with my SR-18EX, AND offers 15 macros instead of the standard 4 you get with the stock remote.
