Well the simplest think you can do at the moment is to uninstall the current drivers.. Then run the add new hardware wizard to detect it again. Once detected close the add hardwarewizard and go back to device manager. Right-click on your cd writer and click on update driver.. This would let windows find the best possible drivers that are available for your drive and install them.. Hope this helps.

In order to write at 8, 12, 16, 24, 32 or 40x speed, you must use certified CD media. The certified media means that it is guaranteed to be able to be written to at the designated speed. It is not necessary to use certified CD media for writing at slower speeds than your drive is capable of.
Why is my drive performing poorly when it comes to writing CDs?

Possible causes:

  • IDE controller chipset driver needs to be updated
  • DMA is not enabled
  • VeloCD drive jumper is not set to Master
Possible solutions:
  • Visit your PC manufacturer's Internet website to download the latest driver for your IDE controller chipset
  • Enable DMA for all drives, including the veloCD, hard drive, CD-ROM drive etc.
  • Ensure that your veloCD drive is set to Master on the secondary IDE channel

What do I do if my recordable CD is defective?

    Problems
with optical media can occur for a multitude of reasons. Although we
encourage our customers to return product that appears to be
troublesome, a thorough analysis of the product must be conducted
before a product evaluation can be deduced.

    Consumer CD-R/RW discs:

    • Consumer
CD-Rs and CD-RWs come with a limited lifetime warranty, which we offer
due to the high quality and reliability of our media products. TDK Life
on Record makes every effort to check each batch of products that we
      produce.

    • A
TDK Life on Record product that is defective in materials and
workmanship will be replaced free of charge when it is returned to TDK

    • If we find that the product is non-defective in materials and/or workmanship, then they will be returned to you

    • Before sending your recordable CDs to TDK, please make sure the firmware
on the CD burner and the recording software is updated. Often a CD
burner needs to be updated to be compatible with newer CD-R media.
Updating is done via upgrading the firmware. Please contact the
manufacturer of your burner for further assistance.

    • Also,
if you're using an older, slower speed CD burner, we suggest purchasing
the lowest speed media available. Conversely, if you are using a newer,
faster CD burner, we suggest using higher speed CD-Rs.

Recording to High Speed CD-RW Media:

    • To determine if your CD burner can record to high speed CD-RW media, check the bezel (faceplate) of your recorder

    • If the words “High Speed” are printed on the bezel, then you will be able to record onto high speed CD-RW media.

    • If the words “High Speed” are not printed on the bezel, then you will only be able to record low speed CD-RW media.

    • Typically, the model number of the drive can also give you an indication if the recorder can record to high speed CD-RW media.

      • Ex: 12/10/32
In this example, the 12 is the write speed (up to 12x w/CD-R discs),
the 10 is the rewrite speed (up to 10x w/ High Speed CD-RW discs), and
the 32 is the read speed (32x read back w/CD-ROM discs, Commercial CDs,
        etc).

    If
you determine that your recordable CD is defective due to materials and
workmanship, simply return your disc(s) to the address below. Please do
not use tape or any other adhesive material when packaging the CDs:

    Most Dell models use
Cable Select cables and jumper settings.
When configuring your drive, make sure you are using Dell’s original
    IDE cable and set the
    drive jumper to Cable Select.

I have a Tdk burner worked fine until my husband had his buddy install some other burning software now my burner doesn't read there's a cd in it and it keeps opening up...still looking for original tdk...

Installing different burning software should not really affect reading capabilities of the burner. Nevertheless, it is not recommended to have two burning software packages on the same computer.

You can try uninstalling the new software that was installed on your computer, the reboot the system and check if that worked. If Windows does not open the disc automatically, you can go to My Computer and access the disc by double clicking on the TDK drive.

If you continue to have the same problems, please make sure the DVD burner is connected properly to the computer.

Try to insert a pin in the small hole and it will open up. The door is probably jam and doing this will open it.

I cannot find TDK XA80 CD-R Audio - Recordable Compact Discs

All you guys looking for AUDIO burner CDs' should try the MEMOREX CD-R MUSIC CDs. These are a new product, released to REPLACE the TDK XA80 AUDIO CDs.

Stocks are a bit low right now - but only because this is a new product - and people like me are buying up big.

'Tanya' at JB Hi Fi in Erina Fair on the NSW Central Coast, has promised me that she will be ordering plenty of these discs because she is aware of our dilema. Apparently Head Office of JB HiFi has also advised their numerous stores of this MEMOREX product and they should all be having them in stock shortly.

Product description:
Red cardboard box with 10 blank CDs in slim jewel cases. Marked "Memorex Music CD-R" 700MB (80min) Mine cost me $8.95c for this pack of ten.

These work fine on my stand alone, Hi-Fi LG dual tray burner and also on a mates' Pioneer CD burner. Good luck and thank God for Memorex!

TDK / Velocd Burner / CDRW 5200B

I'd try cleaning the Drive with a Cleaning CD preferably a wet and dry one and maybe washing the CD surface with a little detergent and drying with a lint-free cloth wiping from the inside to the outer edge. Then reload the disk and Try reading it.
