Sega genesis has a proprietary plug which goes to a standard RCA Style cable. They go for about $9 on eBay.

Or you can get one from Amazon here.

"how do i install a sega genesis 16 bit to my tv and what kind of cords do i need"

There are two different kinds of cables for the Genesis, there are two different plugs for the Long, volume control Model 1; that is a DIN cable with two RCA jacks and for stereo sound you need headphone to RCA adapter for the front headphone connector; for the Model 2 that has no volume control you need the mini din to three RCA jacks.

SOURCE: Need step by step directions to hook up a 16 bit Sega Genesis

There should be two plugs on the back of the sega. One for the power cord, and one for the audio/video cord. The audio/video cord is a coax cord with a little box in line. Hook your cable or antenna cable into the jack on the box and hook the end of the cable from the sega into your tv. There will be a switch on the sega or on the box somewhere that designates channel three or four, this is what channel your tv will need to be on to use the sega.

We just purchased a Sega Genesis 16 bit sysyem...Model 1601. We do not have hook-up instructions. Would you be able to help us?

Hello,
Wow, that is a pretty vintage little game system you got there, but sure I can do the best I can blindfolded.
you should have gotten a A/V cable that ether has a RED/WHITE/YELLOW or a RF Co axe end.
If you got a A/V what you do is hook that to you TV where it says input.
If you got a RF coax you would need to hook that into the round cylinder input with a hole in the middle.
If its AV the tv would need to be put on input. If its the other the tv would need to be on channel 3.
Whatever the case may be please update me if you have any other questions.
Kind regards

I cannot figure out how to get my sega genesis to work on my new tv. Is it because it is a new tv or am I just not doing it right.

hey there

regarding with the sega genesis console it only has the audio video cord you just need to connect it to the port and put your TV on the correct video mode because TV's today has multiple video modes like video1, video 2 and video 3

Help connecting a Sega Genesis 16bit system!

What you will need to do with the RF cable is to take your incoming cable thast goes to your TV and screw it into one side of the RF box. Then the adjacent short cable wire that is on the other side needs to be screwed into your TV. The long end of the cord plugs into the back of the sgea unit. Good luck! Any other questions, feel free to ask.

How do i set up my sega genesis

There should be regular av cables and wall adapter for it. Mine came with the wrong cords and that might of happened to you. So if you don't know the av cables go in the back of the tv and plug's in the back of the sega. and the wall adapter goes in the wall. If you don't have the cords than get them off line. Type in:

http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=sega+genesis+cords&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=2858659671&ref=pd_sl_8zrz6m8bxu_b

cut and paste it online and you can get them.
