Question about Toshiba 32WLT66 32 in. LCD HDTV

Open Question

Toshiba 32WLT66 32 inch -No signal although the aerial is working

We have been suffering from poor signal strength for some time and thought this was a DTV transmitter problem. However, last night all channels went off and the "no signal" notice was posted on the screen.
I have tried to re-tune, both automatically and manually but no sgnals are detected.
I have tried another television on the same aerial connection and it works perfectly. Ironically, this television is a 19 years old Toshiba and still has a perfect picture!!

I think that the pop you heard was an electrolytic capacitor blowing its top on the picture frame board. If you are able to check this for yourself by looking on the board for the one/s with a bulging top or are a brownish/black colour like something has caught fire. And also in this situation smell can be of great help as it will smell burnt out but PLEASE before putting your nose or anything else in the tv take all necessary precautions against electric shock and discharge any electrolytic capacitors in the vicinity. If you are not able to do this yourself find a competant technician. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: TOSHIBA FLAT SCREEN TV has black screen but power light is on!?

Try resetting the TV by leaving it unplugged for an hour.
Plug it back in and check to see if it works normally.
If that doesn't work, rule out the Directv box by pressing the reset button near the access card. The box could be putting out a signal that doesn't have video or audio.
If everything fails, have the tech man come back to check everything that he did before you use the warranty on the TV.

I bought aRCA air ultra thin multi directional indoor HDTV antenna,I cant get this to work with my tv, a 32mf330b/f7 no matter what I do no matter how many times I run the autoprogram, can You help.

Indoor aerials are exclusively for areas with a strong signal and the way digital tv works a good signal is essential.

I expect the signal where the aerial is sited has a poor signal strength and a high gain outdoor aerial will be needed. I suggest you have a look around and check what the neighbours are doing but bear in mind the signal strength in built up and fringe areas can be the radio equivalent of micro climates where moving a few yards in any direction and you could either be freezing or growing pineapples.

If you can take your tv to a good aerial and do a retune and store the found channels you might be lucky and discover your indoor aerial might receive a few channels well enough for viewing.

I have a nevdia 42" tv. Won't pick up all the air channels

That is a matter of the signal strength, so there is really no fix but to get a better signal.

Will not tune in channels on auto store

Well, there's your answer then. You have poor aerial signal so the TV cannot lock on when tuning. You need to sort out the reason why there's "Poor or No Signal" You need to fix the aerial, not the TV. I would have thought that was self-evident, surely?

What kind of aerial are you using. Do you know it works? Check out the aerial cables for breaks or badly fitted connector plugs.

I have an Alba 16 inch flatscreen tv with built in digital tv. When i try to do initial setup or auto install it says check antenna connection even although ariel is in. Can you help

Do you have an indoor or outdoor aerial?
Indoor aerials will not have the strength to pick up television broadcast signal.
Double check your connections, as you could have a loose wire or connection somewhere.
You might need to speak to someone who, can take a look at your aerial to see if it is configured correctly.
Also to make sure it isn't a problem with the aerial, do you have another TV that you can try using on the aerial. to see if you can get signal?

My neighbourgh can get freeview tv just using his old ariel, i on the other hand can not. have i done something wrong with the tv set up. thanks

Probably not. Freeview signals are hundreds of times weaker than the old analogue signals, so will show up every single problem on a badly maintained, badly installed old external tv aerial.

In most areas, a tv set-top aerial is a waste of time and even a loft aerial may have problems. Any aerial system which is not direct from the external aerial to the tv can also suffer problems, as each Y-splitter and joint wastes an awful lot of signal.

Your fix is to get a proper modern aerial system fitted. If it's well designed and installed with the proper parts and cabling (does not necessarily mean most expensive) then it should last for another 30 or so years and ideally won't need signal amplifiers.

Note that although your neighbour gets reception, he probably suffers regular picture break-up, freezing and /or pixellation especially in poor weather unless the aerial was in top condition beforehand and was relatively modern.

Our new digital LCD tv occasionally suffers from picture breaking up and even total loss of signal, after some time, 5 to 15 minutes the signal is restored. Fiddling with the aerial run and connections has...

Tune to a strong channel.
Go into the menu. Find the Channel or Antenna whatever your tv calls it. Set the signal strength display.
If the signal strength show good and your picture is lost then a problem may be in the tv.
More than likely the antenna is not picking up a strong signal. Try rotating it some.

You can go to www.tvfool.com to see what stations are in your reception area.

We have analog tv and freeview box but arial is in loft. signal strength is 70 percent and is good most of time.have found bad breakup when running 3kw shower and 3kw kettle, no other apliances interfere,...

The problem with inside aerilas is the signal strength of 70% contains noise as well. You could try using a higher gain aerial and the interference will be limited with a better signal.
Any electrical items can interfere with a poor signal.

Freeview box (Duraband)

Hi Sandra , it could be poor signal ,worth trying another box on your aerial , also the aerial lead could cause this even the one from the wall plate to the Freeview box ,if your analogue picture is snowy then I would suspect the aerial have you looked for a signal strength meter in the menu , might show how good the signal is
hope this helps
cheers John
