Question about Dell Studio 1537 Laptop

Dvd ate a disc and stopped working

1) dvd not working; has a disc inside it; I need disc out without ruining it. Is it cost effective to replace dvd player or just add an exterior/usb dvd player?

2) I never wanted Vista on my laptop. I was told I would qualify for Windows 7 when it came out, but Best Buy screwed me over on that! So, is there any problem with replacing OS with Linux and just avoid Microsoft programs? Will I have any driver issues?

I cant answer all your questions but to retrieve the dvd you will see a tiny hole on the dvd drive get a paper clip insert it into the hole until you fell pressure then push slightly harder and drive will open do while computer is NOT connected to mains or SWITCHED ON.
hope this helps.

Yes you can get a new one cheap. There should be a small hole in the front of the dvd player turn the power off and stick a paperclip in the hole and the door will pry open easy do not apply alot of force. Try this.

I work for a computer repair shop in Madison Wisconsin, and I routinely take out dvd drives and remove stuck cds and dvds. I charge $59.99, and I am sure that some shop in your area offers the same service. Usually it amounts to flipping the laptop over, seeing where the dvd drive is, then look towards the middle of the laptop and look for one lone screw. Unscrew it and the dvd drive should pull right out. Once out there are usually 4 screws on the top of it that you take out, then pull the top off, lift out disc, put top back on, screw on, put back in laptop, screw the one retaining screw back in and voila!

Does anyone know the numeric code to unlock the DVD tray inside this Toshiba 19LV61K TV/DVD? There is a disc stuck inside the DVD tray, and the film will play without a problem.

There is no such code to get out the strucked disc. you have to take out it by manual method. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts.
http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
If you insist on a numerical code, and have determined, won't do anything without it, try this alpha numerical code {VWXTB 028103820489} Followed by Menu button.
Good luck.

My DVD player/VHS stopped working. When I pop a disc in, I get the error message "This disc cannot be played" or "Please Check Disk". Which I did but no luck. Any suggestions?

If you get the same message with ANY disk that you insert, then the laser mechanism of unit is fubar. Not cost effective to repair - needs replacement.

DVD Player doesn't recognize disks present

Get a DVD cleaning kit and follow instructions, if this fails the laser pickup assembly will need to be replaced, not cost effective to repair cheaper to buy.

My samsung ht-x200 wont play dvds or cds it just displays no disc

Have you tried cleaning the laser with a DVD Cleaning Disc or more in depth by removing the top cover and using DVD Cleaning Fluid & QTips.

If you've tried both these without success then I'm affraid that your laser has failed and in most cases even when replacement lasers are available it's not cost effective to replace it.

26inch BUSH TV/DVD Combi wont read disc. keeps saying NO DISC when inserted.

The DVD player is no longer working. You would need to replace the DVD drive which is not cost effective. Its cheaper to just buy a cheap DVD player.

My dvd player stopped loading dvds. It will say "loading" for a while before it just says "disc error". It's definitely not a problem with the dvds though, I've tried a few and they all...

This is a Laser Pickup Assembly issue, the pladder motor that the dvd sits on is not working and has become defective, the only solution is replaced the machine for a new one, not cost effective for repair.

DVD Player Suddenly Stopped Working

if the disc don't work on the laser lens then manual cleaning would need to be done
can it read music cd's ? if so then the laser is working but is just dirty or is having problems focusing for the dvd
if you have to manually clean the lens( requires disassembly) then do not press hard, it is suspended by thin wires
if cleaning the lens don't work then refocusing of the laser may work , otherwise replacement of the laser mech.( might not be cost effective) or replacement of the player is the only cure.

DVD Lens problem

Hi,
I had a similar problem with my Yamaha DVD player which just kept displaying "reading, reading and reading"- eject-no disc or disc error. I took it into be repaired and was told it needed a new optical lense-cost $120.00 plus fitting.I was told not viable to fix. Not convinced I had a look on the internet and a suggestion given was to buy a can of Air Spray from **** Smith,$14.00 later and blowing the proverbial out of the inside of the unit-Bingo it works for about an hour and then, away we go again-reading reading reading - eject-no disc. Back to the internet and i found a DVD technician who advised the more often than not the problem is a dirty optical lense, and he has saved 100's from the grave by the following method. The most effective way to clean it is with a cotton wool bud soaked in Isopropyl Alcohol and give it a good rub without damaging it. I got the Isopropyl alcohol for $12.00 a 250 ml bottle from the local chemist and did what was suggested. IT WORKED and is still going- not sure for how long but the bonus is I can use the remainder for rubbing down my tired old body, as after shave or a refresher, in addition to fixing DVD's so not all is lost. It's worth a try considering I was going to throw the Yamaha away. Thanks to the internet and the good people who share their knowledge I am happy again.
Hopefully it will work for you. If not, don't forget the other uses for the alcohol.
