How to reset the counter when replacing the inkjet cartridge.

Typically when you put a new ink cartridge in a printer you need to go to the cartridge maintenance location of the driver and "reset" the counter so the computer knows you have a new cartridge installed. By doing this the computer can keep track of the ink level because it knows approximately how many sheets can be printed on an average cartridge. This location can be accessed from the desktop by clicking on "start", then "control panel" then "printers and other hardware" then "view installed printers and other hardware", then click on the appropriate printer, then click on "printer" then "properties" then "cartridge maintenance". At this point there should be a selection where you can reset the counter, print a test page, print an alignement page, etc. I would recommend printing an alignment page. Every time you remove and install a new printer the alignment changes. Follow the instructions on the screen and your printer should be reset and printing like a champ.

A new black toner cartridge on my hp2840 has printed 22 pages and estimated pages remaining is 2. The supplies status page says 'based on page coverage with this supply of 100%'. ...

This is just a issued reading of the cartridge counter..or you used a refilled cartridge should reset the printer and aim for resetting the counter ..and will get rid of the issue ..The thing is Im not sure if this supports the refilled one if this is the case..if it is not a refilled one ..but you just forgot to confirm new cartridge ..than the reset will take care of the issue for sure..
you can also try a power reset ..just unplug while the printer is on ..and then after a few minutes (leave it time to get rid of the power left ..and forget the settings ) than power it back ..and hold he power button down for 10 to 15 seconds..It might work too ..
If this will not ..than you will have to repeat the reset ..until will work ...or if it has a maintenance mode..look for counter reset ..

Of course, the printer settings can be changed via the standard print options menu in Windows but to reset the counter is done when a new cartridge is installed. But this is how I would proceed... Since the printer and the cartridge are in "cahoots", I'd not give them the chance to communicate. Do this: Place some tape over the electronic contacts on the cartridge. (This prevents the printer and cartridge communicating) Then... Setup another printer icon using the HP Laserjet 4 (MS) printer driver. (This ensures no communication between the installed software and the printer). This should allow you to print some more, but not duplex of course. Remember to shake the cartridge from side to side in order to loosen impacted toner. ZT3000 "Beta tester of "0"s and "1's
