On top of the printer when you put the page in, it should have a small picture description of what side to put down or up.

When faxing documents on a Brother 525 fax machine do you put the item Face up or face down

If you have a Brother FAX-525DT, then place the document face down with the leading edge (top) down. The scan unit is on the bottom of the paper path for documents. The manual for the unit is available from Brother's EU division's support. The direct link is http://www.brother.com/pub/eur_fax_doc/fax515_525dt.pdf . The picture for how to position the document to be faxed is on page 55 (page 65 of the PDF).

I hope this helps.

Fax documents face up or face down

Fax documents should be placed as you would any document to be copied or scanned. Face down for manually placed documents. If you have an Automatic Document Feeder, the pages go face up.

I hope this helps.

In what direction to you put in the paper when sending a fax? Up or Down?Front or Back? Thanks

Up or down doesn't matter much, as the recipient can always turn the printout around :) But generally putting the documents upside down will make the fax scan the top of the page first.
As far as front/back is concerned, it depends on the construction - if you look at the document feeder you will see a symbol of a sheet with a corner bent, showing the back side. If there are stripes (symbolizing text) on that corner, you must put the document(s) face down; if the stripes are on the rest of "sheet" - put them face up.
In your case most probably it will be face down. You can always check that, and the quality of document scanning (whether the document is not too light for example) by using the "Copy" function of your fax.
