When I put a DVD into the player the screen goes off and on and it flickers with lines running through the middle of the screen. The sound cuts off and on at the same time.

Let me give you the probable causes:

1. dirty disk
2. scratched disk
3. bad laser optics
4. bad laser to decoder board

Ok I started from the most common to the least common since the unit is not under my eye's here (not on my bench).

Things to try:

1. cleaning kit
2. pop the lid of with a cue tip wipe the laser clean with some alcohol.
3. Try different video audio connections (huntch)
4. follow steps 1 and 2

Now if these helps do not work then the unit will need repair by a local shop (probably cost just a few dollars under what it cost for a new unit)

Please do click the accept button for my efforts, Thanks

I added an additipnal fan and cleared up the problem. On furthe investigation I replaced the air filter and kept only the original fan and the problem was solved. Can you explain this.

Overhead DVD monitor screen dead but sound plays through stereo

If it's a Rosen dvd player the dvd will need to be put in the unit itself & not the unit in the dashboard! The dvd player mounted in the head ligning is a seperate unit from the stereo system fitted in your dashboard!
Sounds to me like you are putting a dvd into the dashboard stereo system which will play any audio through the car speakers...
Put a dvd into the Rosen unit itself & i am sure you will get a picture on the drop down screen! Remember that as far as i know all Rosen dvd players transmit the sound from the dvd to infra red headphones that should be included! Remember to check the batteries if you still can't hear any sound as they run down quick if the headphones are left on!

Hope this helps....

Screen is fine when I first turn on TV, then goes black

Sounds like you dlp lamp is going out. That's a pretty old TV and if you are still running on the stock lamp this is exactly the type of thing that will happen. The lamp model for this particular tv is the ty-la1001. You can find that over here:

Flickering multi-colored line in the middle of the screen.

You have a failure in the vertical deflection circuit. This could be either a bad vertical chip, the power supply that runs the chip or a bad capacitor in that circuit. This is usually a repair best left to a professional. There is a small possibility that it could be bad solder connections. If genlty tapping the unit temporarily solves the issue you can try and resolder the pins on the vertical chip LA7841 is the part number. There is also a resistor 1 ohm 1 watt. If that resistor is open you can assume the IC is bad

My screen would flicker when you tilted it back and forth. Sometimes it would cut out and moving it would make it come back on. I took the battery off and opened the screen from the front(2 screws in hinge & 2 screws under rubber plugs). There is a ribbon plug inside. Mine looked kinked in one spot so I just repositioned it so the kink was in another spot. Everything worked fine after that. Hope this helps.
