Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

?Hi ? We are still having troubles with the Alps MD1000 sub dye printer. As advised on the forums I first installed the Alps printer via plug and play and just let the printer sit there in the printer control panel. Afterwards I installed the native Alps driver and set the printer properties as advised on the forums (print processor, ?) After doing that I tried printing a testpage but the print stops just when it should start printing. So the paper is taken by the printer. But when the paper is in the correct printing start position, the error led starts blinking. I don?t get an error onscreen whatsoever. I tried cleaning the printer, removed the print ?cassettes?, changed the paper from thick to normal, edited the print settings regarding paper size, using a lpt to usb convertor, using lpt cable, Just about everything you should try for troubleshooting a normal printer. I?m afraid there is still something wrong with the printer mechanics but not quite sure where to look. As said the print stops just about when the carier tries to pick up the cassette. Would you have any idea what could be the issue here? Its driving me (tech) and my customer nuts. Thx in advance Ps: specs of the system used: Dell xp sp3 system. (tried on a different system with xp sp2 same issue)?

Hi,

I think there may be a bug in Windows XP which automatically installs a printer in the Printer and Faxes Folder. But that is nonfunctional so that you can not print selecting it default.

To be able to print, you should try:
- Un install all the previously installed printer drivers.
- Connect the printer to you PC.
- Restart the computer.
- Let the windows install its default printer driver via plug and play. It may be like "Alps MD-100..." etc. You may rename its name in the "Printer and Faxes folder" as "Printer nonfunctional".
- Do not delete that default printer driver and do not use that printer drive while printing.
- Install the Alps driver which you had in the CD. (If you don't have I can find for you.)
- Then set the newly installed printer driver as your default printer.
- Always use this printer while printing.

Hope this helps.

If you have any comment I am ready to answer it.

MD 1000 Thermal Printer: I need a driver for ALPS MD1000 printer that will ...

Go to the ALPS Yahoo Group. They have an extensive file section with drivers. Windows will use the default plug and play driver for the printer. The MS version is very limited. You should rename the MS driver to something else like "MS Alps Driver" and then install the ALPS driver you find at the Yahoo Group. These will give you full functionality.

good luck

Alps MD1000 printer.

MD-1000s hit end of support almost 10 years ago. Chances of getting spares are nil.

Best bet is to get a junker of eBay for spares, or you can get a new MD-5500 from http://www.alps-supplies.com

Lines through my md 1300 alps printer

It sounds like the head has been damaged. Unfortunately, there is no fix for this, as Alps stopped production of these printers years ago, and now do not offer repairs for these printers.

If you still want a dye-sub capable Alps printer, the only model available is the MD-5500, which you can find here: http://www.alps-supplies.com

ALPS MD1000 Won't print

Please ignore courtdate & creamgetmonE. Here's why:
creamgetmonE - If you're using the XP driver, you are using something so crippled, it should have been aborted. USE THE ALPS DRIVER!!!!!!!!
courtdate, oiling the carriage rail will not change a thing, apart from gunking up the printer, and ENSURING it will fail sometime in the future.
TO FIX YOUR PROBLEM:
There is a sensor under the anti-curl veil. Clean it.

ALPS Printer MD1000 Driver

Several things about these printers.......

1. Do NOT use the MS XP driver for these - it has limited functionality. Download the Alps driver, which you can find in the files section at the Alps YahooGroup (http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/Alps/files/)
2. The printer requires bi-directional comms in order to feed back the printer status to the computer. While this is not an absolute requirement, it means that without bi-dir comms, the error light will flash, and you won't know what the problem is.
3. The driver is hardcoded to only communicate bi-directionaly with Alps virtual LPT ports - run this with a non-Alps cable (And all of the cables on FleaBay are non-Alps), and you will not be able to monitor the printer status.

Now, how to install.....

1. Plug in the USB cable to the computer (But not the printer), and let it install. Reboot if required (Unlikely)
2. Install the Alps driver you downloaded fron the Alps YahooGroup. Reboot if required. If you now look at Printers in Control Panel, you will see a nice Alps printer there, waiting to be used. Make a note of what it named.
3. Plug in the printer and turn it on. XP will now tell you it has found new hardware, and install the MS driver. Reboot if required
4. Go back to Printers in Control Panel. You will now see you have TWO Alps printers! The MS driver will be called something like "Alps MD-1000 (MS)". Rename (DON'T delete!) this driver to something like "Alps MD-1000 (DO NOT USE)". If you delete it, it will come back to haunt you every time you switch on the printer, and screw up your settings.
5. Open the properties page of the driver you made a note of in step 2 (Control Panel -> Printers and Faxes -> right click on printer, and select "Properties"), and click on the "Ports" tab.
6. Check the checkbox next to the port created for your USB-// cable, and uncheck the other box that will be checked.
7. Uncheck "Enable bidirectional support"
8. Click on the "Advanced" tab
9. Select the "Print directly to the printer" radio button
10. Click on the "Print Processor" button
11. Select ALMD224S as the Print processor and select RAW(FF AUTO) as the Default data type
12. Click Apply.
