Cant find the tool in windows xp that fixes/cleans the business end of the cartridge, the one that has that 3 levels of cleaning and then shows you little vertical lines for alignment or something.

Go to the applications folder on your harddrive, dbl click the make of your printer icon for settings page. lastly, go to website of make of printer to trouble shooters page. good luck

A "Printer alignment failed " error message displays on the product
Follow these steps in the order presented until you resolve the issue. When one of the steps resolves the issue, there is no need to continue troubleshooting.
Step one: Load the correct type of paper
Colored, photo, or used paper can cause the alignment to fail.

1.
Remove all the paper from the tray.
2.
Load unused, plain white, letter, or A4-sized paper with a brightness level of at least 85 into the tray.

NOTE: Look for the brightness level on the paper packaging.

Step two: Align the All-in-One

1.
Press the Setup button ( ).
2.
Press the Down Arrow ( ) to select Tools , and then press OK .
3.
Press the Down Arrow to select Align Print Cartridges and then press OK . The product calibrates, aligns the printhead, and then prints an alignment page.
4.
Click OK to continue.
5.
Recycle or discard the alignment page.

If these steps resolved the issue , there is no need to continue troubleshooting.

If the issue persists , see the next step.

Step three: Check the ink levels
Empty or nearly empty cartridges might cause alignment failures. Follow these steps in the order presented to check the ink levels in the cartridges.

Open HP Solution Center.

Windows XP: Click Start , click All Programs , click HP , and then click HP Solution Center .

Windows Vista: Click the Windows icon ( ), click All Programs , click HP , and then click HP Solution Center .
HP Solution Center opens in a new window.

Click Settings ( ).
3.
In the Print Settings area, click Printer Toolbox . The printer Toolbox opens.
4.
Click the Estimated Ink Level tab. The estimated ink levels display in a new window.

If either of the cartridges is empty or low on ink, continue to the next step.

If the ink levels in the cartridges are sufficient, skip to Step five: Clean the cartridges .

Step four: Replace the cartridges
Follow these steps to replace any cartridges that are empty or low on ink.

1.
Press the Power button ( ) to turn on the product.

CAUTION: If the product is off when you open the cartridge door to access the cartridges, the product does not release the cartridges for changing. You might damage the product if the cartridges are not in the dock when you try to remove them.
2.
Open the cartridge door.

Wait until the print carriage is idle and silent, and then lightly press down on a cartridge to release it.

NOTE: To replace the tri-color print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the slot on the left. If you are replacing the black or photo print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the slot on the right.

4.
Pull the print cartridge toward you out of its slot.

5.
Remove the new cartridge from its packaging.

Use the pull tab to gently remove the protective plastic tape from the cartridge.

CAUTION: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

7.
Slide the new cartridge forward into the empty slot, and then gently push on the upper part of the print cartridge forward until it clicks into the socket.

Close the cartridge door.

Try the alignment again.

Step five: Clean the cartridges
Method one: Clean the cartridges from HP Solution Center

1.
Open HP Solution Center.

5.
Follow the on-screen instructions to choose the appropriate cleaning level.

Recycle or discard the page that prints.

Method two: Clean the cartridges from the Start menu

1.
Click Start , and then click Printers and Faxes .
2.
Right-click your printer icon, and then choose Properties .
3.
Click Printing Preferences , and then click the Services tab.
4.
Click Service This Device . The Printer Toolbox opens.
5.
Click the Device Services tab, and then click the Clean the Print Cartridges tab.
6.
Follow the on-screen instructions to choose the appropriate cleaning level.
7.
Replace empty or almost empty cartridges.

Step six: Reset and relocate the product
A power reset drains power from the product and returns the product to the same settings after restarting. Plugging the product directly into a wall outlet can eliminate any potential power deficiencies that could cause an alignment failure.

1.
Make sure that you have the product turned on. If necessary, press the Power button ( ) to turn on the product.
2.
With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the product.
3.
Unplug the power cord from any power strips or surge suppressors, and then plug it directly into a wall outlet, preferably in another room.
4.
Reconnect the power cord to the back of the product.
5.
Press the Power button ( ) to turn on the product.
6.
Load plain white paper into the tray.
7.
Try the alignment again.

Will not print black, ink level shows half full


Try cleaning the cartridges and aligning them.
To Clean: Click Start and then go to Printers and Faxes (XP), Printers(Vista), Devices and Printers(Win 7)
1. Right Click on your printer Icon 2. Go to Printing Preferences 3. Click the Features Tab 4. At the bottom of the window you will see Printer Services or Device Services. Click on it. 5. Choose Clean Printheads on the list.
Same steps goes for the alignment, you just have to choose Align the Printer.
Try Printing Again. I hope I was able to solve your problem. :)

No there's no specific drivers for windows 7 either 32 bit or 64 bit, it'll automatically install the device with the default drivers.

If there's a problem with your cartridge or cartridge ink level indicator, then you better clean the cartridge contact points and the contact points on the printer.

Printing window does not show ink levels. what am I doing?

Epson Stylus Photo R265. Has low ink light on but supply levels all showing unknown. I know there are no empty ink cartridges. Has been running with my Macbook since last August without problems.

I have a kodak easyshare5300 printer. The printer will not print in black ink and some times also in color.


Dear Kbrownsr,

Please check the ink/toner levels of the cartridges installed in your printer.

Steps to solve this problem.

1.) Check the ink levels by using the printer software provided with the printer.
2.) if the ink levels are low, the cartridges has to be replaced/refilled with new ones.
3.) if the ink levels are high or medium, try to do a calibration for the printer using printer tools provided by the printer vendor/ software.
4.) please do a cleaning cartridge and align cartridge options in the printer tools followed by a second calibration.
5.) if the ink levels are showing medium/high and still if the problem occurs, remove the cartridges from the printer and shake them well left to right and top to bottom. it may work fine.

if you did all these steps , and still find that problem is not solved, you may have to contact the concerned service technician for advanced help

No ink coming from cartridges.


Seems like a lot of people are all of a sudden having these problems. I have had this printer for 4 years I think and no problems at all. Phone support says to clean the heads 3 times and then they give up. By the way, there is no tape to remove from authentic ink cartridges for this printer. The cartridge holder pops a hole in the film. You cant pull that cover off, it is popped when inserted.

The lubricant is used to ensure that the interaction between the pen and the carriage assembly does not cause tears in the flex circuit. Refer to the following instructions to solve this issue. Cleaning the Inkjet cartridges can improve the quality of printing. If the printed page is missing lines or dots, or if it contains ink streaks, perform Procedure 1 in this section. If problems persist after performing Procedure 1, perform Procedure 2. NOTE: Use plain paper for these maintenance activities rather than more expensive specialty papers. Procedure 1: Cleaning the cartridge electrical contacts 1. Turn on the printer. 2. Open the top cover. The cartridges should move to the center of the printer. 3. Unplug the printer?s power cord from the power outlet. WARNING: Keep new and used cartridges out of the reach of children. 4. Remove the color cartridge. 5. Clean the electrical contacts (see Figure 1). Figure 1: Cleaning the cartridge electrical contacts A- Use a clean, soft, dry, lint-free cloth. B- Locate the copper-colored circuitry strip on the back of the cartridge. C- Wipe the coppers strip with the dry cloth. Use an upward motion, from the nozzle end to the top of the cartridge. CAUTION: Do not wipe the nozzle plate on the bottom of the cartridge. Wiping the nozzle plate can damage the cartridge (Figure 2). Figure 2: Do not wipe the nozzle plate 6. Remove the black cartridge. With a clean part of the cloth, repeat Step 5 with the black ink cartridge. Cleaning the electrical contacts inside the carriage assembly 1. Look for fibers or other contaminants on the electrical contacts inside the carriage assembly. The contacts in the printer can be damaged if too much pressure is applied during the wiping process. If necessary, the contacts may be cleaned by wiping them very gently with a dry, lint-free cloth (see Figure 3). Try to gently remove any visible debris within the carriage. WARNING: Make sure the printer power is turned off before cleaning inside of the printer. Figure 3: Cleaning the contacts inside the printer 2. Reinsert both cartridges. On models with cradle latches, close the cradle latch over the top of the cartridges. 3. Close the top cover. 4. Plug the power cord into the power outlet. 5. Print a test page. If the problem persists, go to Procedure 2. Procedure 2: Aligning and cleaning the cartridges Use the HP Deskjet Toolbox or Printer Assistant utility on the desktop (the utility name will depend on which HP Deskjet model is installed on the computer). NOTE: HP Deskjet Toolbox or Printer Assistant is for Windows users. HP Deskjet Toolbox: To align the cartridges from the HP Deskjet toolbox: 1. Open the HP Deskjet toolbox. The toolbox is located on your desktop in Microsoft ®) Windows XP, Me, 2000, 98, 95, and NT 4.0. In Windows 3.1x, the toolbox is located in the program group for the printer. 2. Select the Printer Services tab in the toolbox. 3. Select Cartridge Alignment and follow the steps on the screen. 4. After the alignment process is completed, perform a Cartridge Cleaning from the toolbox. 1. Double-click the HP Deskjet Toolbox shortcut (or icon) on the desktop. 2. Click the Printer Services tab. 3. Click Clean the Print Cartridges. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen HP Printer Assistant: To align the cartridges from the Printer Assistant: 1. Launch the Printer Assistant by clicking the Printer Assistant icon located on the desktop 2. Select tools and updates. 3. Go to printer maintenance. 4. Select calibrate printer. 5. Click calibrate and follow the onscreen instructions. Further instructions on calibrating the printer cartridges using the Printer Assistant can be found on document npd09616 - HP DJ 3320,3325 and 3420 series printers - how to calibrate the print cartridges After the alignment process is completed, perform a Cartridge Cleaning from Printer Assistant. 1. Select tools and updates. 2. Go to printer maintenance 3. Select clean cartridges. 4. Click clean and follow the onscreen instructions. If the problem persists, the cartridge should be replaced. If the cartridge still exhibits banding even after cleaning and priming actions in the HP Deskjet Toolbox are complete, the cartridge may need to be replaced. Verify the end for warranty date on the supply before returning it to the reseller. Typically, banding problems are most pronounced in images produced on plain paper in Normal mode. In many cases, simply changing to Best mode will alleviate the problem and produce satisfactory output. If switching modes does not result in acceptable performance, try using the cleaning steps described above. Internal test from the printer Running an internal test from the printer can perform a clean test. See document titled HP Deskjet Printers - How To Print Internal Tests for instructions on how to run internal tests. If the problem persists, replace the cartridge. Let me know if that helps.
