First restart the computer and tap f10 key on keyboard to enter bios, and check wethere the screen flickers or not you can even try to tilt the screen and check as the drivers doesnt works in bios screen ... if the screen flickers then it is a hardware issue .. if it doesnt then log on to safe mode with networking by pressing f8 as the notebook restarts and then go to device manager by typeing device at the start search and the uninstall the video driver and then reinstall it from hp.com support and drivers ..issue will be resolved if not then do a bios update from hp.com, support and drivers.

How to care my hp dv5 battery? buy the hp dv5 battery from http://www.batteryfast.com/hp/pavilion-dv5.htm

For long life battery:

-Don't play computer games, music or DVD movies - Multimedia activities drain laptop batteries.

-Disconnect all external device like PC Card modems, Firewire, USB devices and optical drives. Use the notebook touchpad instead of an external mouse.

-Adjust your screen brightness - Dimming your display saves battery power.

-Tweak Windows Power Options - Choose a Laptop power scheme that turns off the notebook monitor and hard disk after 10 minutes of inactivity.

-Decrease or mute the Laptop Speaker Volume.

-Programs that are run from a CD or DVD can be copied to and run from the hard drive, which typically consumes less power than an optical drive.

Sounds like you need to install the driver. Here is the HP download driver page for your model ( the driver is called "ENE CIR Receiver" ). Just hit the download button. Once it has finished downloading, if it does not start up (self extract) just find the file on your hard drive and double click!

Also, there might be other software that you need to get it to work, so here's the link for the whole list of drivers, software and tools that you might need or may want! When you go to this link, it will give you a list of windows systems, click one the operating system you are using ( 7 in this case, but you still need to choose if yours is 32bit orb64bit ). This will take you to the list for YOUR laptop specific( Hp pavilion DV5-1002au ) software!:

My screen flickers on my HP Pavillion dv5 now and then more often than not, why is that and what can i do to solve the probelm, the lap top is only two months old

Okay, in order to isolate the issue, I recommend you to update the graphic card drivers and I also suggest you to check the same in BIOS and with external monitor. If you see the screen flickering in BIOS, you have to contact HP and they will arrange for free mail in service.

HP Pavilion dv5 laptop screen keeps blacking out. I have to move it back and forth to get the screen to come back on... sometimes it takes a few minutes to get it in a position where the screen appears...

You could have a faulty inverter or a CCFL lamp, To determine if you have a LCD screen, inverter or video card problem, read this and follow these instructions.
Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

HP Pavilian external monitor color problem.

The easiest thing would be to check your cable for a bent or loose pin. Next put another external monitor on the laptop. The circuitry to provide video to the laptop screen and the external monitor are separate except that they share a video processor and video memory. There can be bad electronics involved.
