OVEN SHOWS EE2 ERROR CODE AFTER ABOUT 15 SECONDS OF COOKING,IT CONTINUES TO END OF TIME SET AND SEEMS TO BE HEATING.I HAVE A 10 DEGREE CELCIUS RISE IN TEMP FOR 1 MINUTE, WITH 1 LITER OF WATER.I AM NOT FAMILAR WITH SHARP OVENS.I SERVICE MOSTLY HOBART AND AMANA.

    1. UNPLUG the oven.


    2. DISCHARGE ALL HIGH-VOLTAGE CAPACITORS. (Procedure)


    3. Disconnect the high-voltage lead from the transformer's
      high-voltage terminal (or tap).


    4. With an ohmmeter set to the lowest resistance scale, R X 1,
      measure the resistance from the high-voltage terminal to the transformer
      chassis (ground).


      1. Some early models are equipped with two or
        three high-voltage taps. If this is the case, perform the measurement
        from each tap to chassis ground.



    5. The meter should read about 55 to 70 ohms, depending on
      which high-voltage tap is being measured and the model being tested.


      1. A substantially higher or lower reading
        would indicate that the transformer is defective.



    6. Carefully disconnect the leads from the primary (input)
      terminals


    7. Measure from one transformer primary terminal to the other
      for a normal reading of less than 1 ohm (i.e., .22 ohms)


      1. A substantially higher reading would
        indicate that the primary winding is open.



    8. Set the meter to its highest resistance scale and check
      from each transformer primary terminal to the transformer chassis
      (ground) for a normal reading of infinity (open circuit).


      1. Any measurement of resistance would
        indicate some degree of a short to ground



    9. Set the meter back to its lowest resistance scale. Then
      carefully disconnect the filament leads and measure from one filament
      terminal to the other for a normal resistance of less than 1 ohm.


    10. Set the meter to its highest scale and measure from each
      filament terminal to chassis ground for a normal reading of infinity
      (open circuit).


      1. Any measurement that is substantially
        different from the normal readings would indicate a defective
        transformer.

    The high-voltage
    rectifier
    (diode) works along with the high-voltage
    capacitor
    to effectively double the
    already-high voltage that is provided by the power transformer. This
    powerful voltage, about 3000 - 5000 volts DC (depending on the model),
    is applied to the magnetron tube, causing it to produce the microwave
    energy that cooks the food.

    Testing the HV diode requires an ohm meter with at least a 6
    volt battery in order to accurately measure the front to back resistance
    of the diode. Meters with insufficient battery power may read infinite
    resistance (open) in each direction, mistakenly showing a good diode as
    being open.





    However, the following resistance tests will
    conclusively reveal a diode that is shorted. In most cases, defective
    diodes, whether shorted or open, will show some physical signs of the
    defect, such as a burned crack, a blistered spot, or it may even be
    split in two. Also, a shorted diode will usually give off a pungent
    electrical burning odor.

Sharp convection microwave oven model R1875F. It's cooking on the left side faster then the rest of the oven. It seems to burn on the left side and not cook in the middle.

Diode The high voltage diode converts the A/C power output of the transformer to D/C, doubling the voltage to nearly 5,000 volts. This high voltage powers the magnetron which emits the energy that cooks the food. If the diode burns out, a lower A/C voltage reaches the magnetron, which is not sufficient to power the magnetron. When the diode fails it is often visibly burned out. If it appears to be good, it can be tested with a volt-Ohm meter capable of testing diodes. High voltage diodes frequently fail and are one of the most common points of failure in a microwave oven.

Door Switch If the microwave does not heat, one of the door switches might be defective. Microwave ovens normally have three door switches, if any of them fail the microwave does not turn on and does not heat. Check the switches for continuity with an Ohm meter.

Magnetron If the microwave oven doesn't heat the magnetron tube might have burned out. The magnetron uses high voltage, high current DC power to generate the microwave frequency that cooks the food. If the microwave oven is turned on when it is empty this can cause the magnetron to burn out. Once it is burned out it has to be replaced, it's not repairable.

High Voltage Capacitor If the microwave doesn't heat the high voltage capacitor might be defective. The high voltage capacitor works with the high voltage diode to convert the output of the transformer to DC voltage and to double the output voltage. If the capacitor is burned out the entire high voltage circuit stops working properly. The high voltage capacitor can be checked with a special VOM meter which has a capacitance testing capability. Be aware that the high voltage capacitor can retain a charge of more than 3,000 volts and can injure or kill a person if not handled properly. Only trained technicians should perform this type of testing.

High Voltage Transformer If the microwave does not heat, the high voltage transformer might be burned out. Microwave ovens produce a very high voltage in order to power the magnetron antenna, which emits the energy that cooks the food.

Thermal Fuse If the microwave doesn't heat the thermal fuse may have blown. It can be tested for continuity. Watch our fuse testing video for more information.

Thermoprotector If the microwave doesn't heat the thermoprotector may have tripped. This is a safety device to prevent the microwave from overheating. It can be tested for continuity to see if it's blown.

Main Control Board If the microwave doesn't heat the main control board may be defective. This is not common. When a microwave doesn't heat the problem is usually within the high voltage circuit; either the high voltage capacitor, diode, transformer or magnetron.

I have a sharp microwave sometimes it works for 10 or 20 seconds and then stops with error ee2, other times it works fine. Today it did the same but stopped with error ee1!


This sounds like a keypad problem, sometimes a short developes in the keypad controller causing all kinds of intermittent problems, on the back is the microprocessor circuit board which controls vital areas of the microwave oven. The cost to repair will be high and consideration should given to looking at a replacement.

The microwave screen says EE2


The fault code "EE2" on a Sharp commercial microwave oven means that the magnetron 2 circuit has a problem and is pulling too little or too much current.

It may be the magnetron, high voltage transformer, high voltage diode, wiring, etc.

Since you didn't mention your model number I can't say for sure, but magnetron 2 is usually the lower magnetron in a Sharp.

Trouble shoot microwave


The first thing to try is a "hard reset". Unplug it from the power line for a minute, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.

Also, are any other of your electrical items (light bulbs, DVDs, etc.) failing lately? This could indicate improper power line voltage.

Let us know if the hard reset doesn't fix it.
