Question about Dell Computers & Internet

Dell Inspiron 1520- Blank screen, Caps Lock flashes 45 times...

Powerlight and DVD drive lights are on. No other lights are on.
Caps lock flashes 45 times then the computer shuts off.
I hear my hard drive start up and I see the power and DVD drive lights on.

Read some advice and then I've taken out all power supplies (battery and AC adapter) and held down the power button for a minute to relieve all built-up charge. Still doesn't work.

It just doesn't post or anything. Not sure what's up. :(
Any help?

I FIXED IT!! I just took out the RAM and it booted fine to the Dell logo screen. I shut it off and put in different RAM.
I haven't tried the same RAM again yet. I will do that later, though.

If it does not even post or show the DELL Logo then this may already be a hardware failure. The best thing to do is to contact Dell Tech Support. Specially if you still have warranty. It could already be a couple of things ranging from the memory to the motherboard itself.

Attach to external monitor, if it works, there is a fuse that is blown near the video output cable. Not big enough for a novice to fix.
If not shown on external, it is a dead lcd, or bad solder ball issue. Quite common on those models.

Fuse details may be shown on my webblog. "Getting In Too Deep" Google it. Then search for Dell - it should come up in the list.

Flashing Caps Lock for Dell 1420 and won't start.

A quick look on the Internet and the DELL support side indicates the flashing caps lock light is the result of a SDRAM memory fault. It flashes 10 times, after which all led lights above the keyboard go off. have you installed new memory lately? Maybe it cam loose. If not swapping out the memory may solve your problem.

Run the Dell Diagnostics Utility by pressing Fn+Power button at the same time.

If the Diagnostics doesn't come up, your motherboard needs replacement.

Hi
You probably have a mother board issue. Most likely the video chip. Take this to a reputable repair person or check my website www.micromendllc.com.

Inspiron 6400 doesn't start.

On Flash Flash indicates that no RAM memory is being detected. So remove both RAM modules, insert 1 at a 30 deg angle till the gold contacts cannot be seen, then lock it in place, and see if the RAM is detected. Test both modules in both slots, see if system will boot with at least one. If no change, try a new RAM module, if still no change, replace the motherboard

Dell Inspiro 6400 not starting up

If the Num lock is lit constant, and the Caps Lock and Scroll Lock keys are flashing, the system is reporting a memory error. Power off the system, remove the battery, and follow the user manual from support.dell.com to reseat the memory module(s). If the error persists, you may need to replace the memory and/or the system board of the portable.

Dell Lattitude C840 Laptop

The 3 LED's (Num Lock, Caps Lock, Scroll Lock) are used by Dell to diagnose no-post issues such as yours. The only error code close to yours is [Num Lock ON, Caps Lock FLASHING, Scroll Lock ON]. This indicates a a memory error. Try reseating the memory modules. If you have 2 memory modules, insert one at a time to determine the faulty module.
