turn on/off, unplug, wait a minute, plug back in, should reset.
take all paper out. check to see if any paper pieces is jammed in the rollers
go to application folder for your computer, dbl click icon for make of printer for settings to ensure everything is order.
lastly, check hp's printer trouble shooting web site for more information. or the printer head might had a fleck of dirt on it, run a print test
good luck.

Our Magenta cartridge is not printing properly. We replaced it with a brand new cartridge and the problem remains the same. It barely prints, if at all, to the left of the page and gradually increases...

It's probably a dirty laser scanner. The magenta is most prone to this type of problem. Here's a link for instructions. http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/getattachment.do?attachmentId=297096&ext=.pdf

The red color is very faded and at best looks to be faded orange. The print cartridge has been replaced with a new one. I only use HP supplies.

Dirty mirrors is the most frequently problem for 1600/2600 series. Comments: Oct 06, 2009 - NO, never use cotton ear buds, sometimes they landed some fibers to the mirrors and you will get bad image :)
