As I describe the number of terminals, I am not counting the ground terminal (usually colored green.) A four-way switch has four terminals. Two are for two "travelers" coming in, and two are for "travelers" going out. One pair is at the top, and one pair is at the bottom. You only need to use a four-way switch if you are wiring three or more switches together to control the same light. In the case of three switches, only the middle one needs to be a four-way, with the first and third switches only needing to be three way switches. If you are only wiring two switches together, you only need to use three-way switches. However, you can use a four-way switch in place of a three-way switch by only using 3 of it's 4 terminals. . . Before I write the rest of a very long reply, please ask me some more questions so that I can focus on what you need to know. Please describe what you are doing.

I have a cooper comb devces how do i wire i want switch to control the plug

The Cooper combo device requires neutral wire to energize the outlet.
To control outlet with switch, the Hot side of device must have break-away fin.
Remove break-away fin.
Connect jumper wire from switch load side to outlet Hot side.

I have four wires; 2 black and 2 white. I need to know how to wire 274w.

The 2 whites from the Romex cable go together along with a jumper. Now, the neutral jumper from the white bundle goes to the SILVER screw terminal one the side of the outlet where the LONGER slot is.

The black wire (load/light side), goes to the brass screw terminal on the SAME side outlet.

The OTHER black (line/HOT) wire goes to the opposite side of the switch, the side that has the connecting tab.

The grounding wires go together and then get connected to the box ground.

Yes the indicator light can go bad.

Google search: 'cooper switch with indicator light' -or- 'cooper pilot light switch'
Double check amp rating on existing switch to make sure you have correct amperage.

When replacing switch, look at screw colors and location of wires.
Compare screw colors on new switch.
Screws are color-coded and wires attach to same color screw.
Take photo of wiring or draw picture of wiring before taking out old switch.

I need the wiring diagram for a Cooper 277W single pole switch with pilot light. The light is to be on when the switch is on. Thanks!

I have 120Volt cooper 277 pilot light switch here in my office.
Dang instruction sheet shows wiring for all kinds of cooper devices.
EXCEPT pilot light switch.

So I tested with multimeter and came up with following:
Key to any wiring device is color of screws.
Hot from breaker box always goes to dark-colored screws.
Neutral always goes to silver-colored screws.
Brass screws are for Hot wires from breaker or Hot going to Load
Green screw - ground

Look for the manufacturer's wiring on line or if the product is still available ask a merchant to permit you to copy the schematic from a similar product as yours. If they want future or continued service to you they will most likely accommodate you.
If that does not work, have a certified electrician look at it to sort out the three black and four earth wires.
