SOURCE: JD 6400 tractor, PTO light flashes when engaged

The most likely problem is the pto solenoid valve on the rear of the tractor. It could be the speed sensor but you won't know until you get the codes read by the dealer.I have had to replace the b.c.u. for this problem but it is not common.

SOURCE: PTO CONTROLS. How do you engage and disengage PTO.

The tractor is not a 6300 is it.If it' not you need to adjust the cable for the p.t.o. until it will stay down.Don't turn the turnbuckle too much at a time because there is a fine line between the won't engage and the won,t disengage adjustment.

SOURCE: JD 420 PTO works fine when cold/newly started.

I used a neighbors 420 while mowing and there were times that I tried to restart the blades after turning them off for a bit. I found, I think, that you had to have the brake depressed to make them turn back on.

SOURCE: jd 3020 power shift pto turns all the time. if

The pto brake is either worn out or you have no presure to it when the pto is turned off, most likely the pto brake is worn out.

SOURCE: engaging the blades / PTO

There is either a yellow toggle switch or a yellow knob type switch on the dash panel that will engage your deck unless some of the safety switches are stopping it from working due to an adjustment problem or a defective switch, let me know if you need more help.

John Deere X320. If at any point while I'm mowing I back up mower will not re-engage.

The wiring diagram shows the reverse switch is normally closed until activated. This would mean forward travel requires switch closed else PTO disengages... same as your experience.

From your description of progressive failure I suspect the switch has failed or has come loose and moved from it's normal position.

Go to the JD website below and search "reverse switch". A parts diagram should display. Look for item 15, part number LVA13307

https://partscatalog.deere.com/jdrc/navigation/equipment/61166

The reverse pedal or linkage must somehow activate the switch.

There could be a problem with the PTO switch or safety interlock module or electrical interconnections so if the reverse switch checks out, further troubleshooting will be necessary. Start at the reverse switch and work your way to the PTO switch then the interlockmodule.

Hello I have a jd lx176 and it has sat for a while. So my problem is it will not do anything battery is charged and all the wire look good but sit on the seat turn the key nothing

JD safety interlock requires park brake on, PTO off and, transmission neutral.

With key in run position, if you move PTO switch (on) then off, you should hear clutch engage/disengage. If not, find an check fuses. Look for signs of mice if it sat uncleaned from previous use.

I'd go into further, detail but did find unobstructed download for this model.

X595 john deere pto wont kick in

These John Deere Garden Tractors have a RIO (Reverse Implement Option) on the PTO. If your PTO is engaged and you back up, the PTO will automatically stop. To reset it, depress your PTO engagement switch to the OFF position. Take your foot off the reverse pedal. Pull up on the PTO engagement switch. The PTO should restart. To use the RIO feature, pull up on the PTO switch for a second or two just before you step on the reverse hydrostatic pedal. The yellow RIO indicator light should come on your dashboard and you can now back up with the PTO still running. Works great for snow blowing when I don't want to keep resetting my electric PTO clutch to keep restarting my snow blower.

If your PTO will not restart, you may have a PTO switch starting to fail, or a likely logic problem in your electric PTO control module, or one of your forward/reverse indicator switches, which is linked to your PTO control module along with the overtemp circuit, is stuck/faulty.

I have an old 4020 and the PTO will not stop when the PTO handle is in the off position. Can you tell me what is likely wrong and is it a major fix?

Hi,
The internal brake has gone bad... and yes it is a major fix, because the tractor will have to be split to get to it...
You probably can stop it with a gloved hand by grabbing a hold of it...then you can quickly get a PTO shaft against it and get it hooked up...any drag from a machine should be enough to keep it stopped...
If it is pulling harder then that then you have even bigger problems, as the throwout is bad inside and the PTO is constantly engaged...
