Question about Nikon D90 Digital Camera with 18-105mm lens

1 Answer

I was using active viewing on the back screen when the battery went flat. I put in the new battery but the mirror is still down, so it shows an error message when I try to take a photo now. The mirror has remained up as in cleaning position.

Put the batteries on and close the mirror first ...and after that it will work ..It do not takes picks cause it is in the view mode..so ...before you put any batteries on ..place the button in the view position and than start it ...I suspect that you changed in the shooting mode with batteries out ..
So ..be sure it is in the view mode..and insert the batteries..when it powers up..change the mode to take pictures..and the mirror should close..and it will function proper..

Hi, I have inherited by dad's old Nikon FM camera - well I think it's a FM! It has not been used for centuries and I was able to take one picture before it the view screen went black. I have taken...

The mirror has locked up, blacking out the viewfinder. Mirror lock up is usually due to flat batteries, so replace them as soon as possible. Extended lock up is bad for the camera.

The FM uses a pair of SR44 batteries, you can use the cheaper LR44's but the voltage characteristics are different and exposures will be a little off, but if you're using print film then you're unlikely to notice any problem.

The batteries are very widely available, the link I've provided is for the mail order supplier I use in the UK. Even if the supplier is of no use to you the information they provide shows you most of the other names that the identical batteries are sold as by various manufacturers.

If new batteries don't fix it then the camera is effectively beyond economic repair.

My glass mirror only is missing on my 2000 buick lesabre what can I do?

I assume you are talking about the rear view mirror inside the vehicle. Did it fall down or is it actually missing. Seeing as you said missing - Buy a replacement mirror and buy a package or rear view mirror adhesive that contains glue and an activator. Follow directions on package. If it fell down, follow steps other than buying a new mirror.

Just put new batteries in. No film. I looked at the view finder and snapped a pic then the screen went black. I took the lens off and the mirror is sideways.

You have two main possibilities. The new batteries are incorrectly inserted or the batteries are faulty.

If not those, then it's a camera fault (it's definitely faulty if the mirror is actually sideways and not merely halfway up) and as you can get N75's for free these days (my last two have been boxed and nearly unused from FreeCycle) then it's simply uneconomical to repair it unless the mirror can simply be removed and correctly re-fastened. Spare parts availability is already very poor for the n75.

My canon eos 100D wont's show the image on the screen. it will take the picture when looking through the view finder, but i would like it to appear on the screen. pleae help

Unlike compact point and shoot cameras, Canon's range of EOS D-SLRs don't have the LCDs stay on all the time. The design of the SLR camera involves a mirror in front of the sensor. The mirror in its normal position inhibits the image to be captured by the image sensor. When you shoot, the mirror flips up for a split second and back to its rest position.

To use "Live View" (composing shots with the LCD), there is an option in the Menu to enable it. Once enabled, press the centre "Select" button behind the camera to activate the LCD. However, the camera can't Auto Focus for you in Live View mode so manual focusing input is required of the photographer.

Replacing a rear view mirror

You have to CAREFULLY ( probably wise to wear safety goggles ) and with a flat blade screwdriver, pry out ALL the broken mirror glass wearing gloves. Now with the 2 adhesive strips, align mirror glass and adhere to base. Hope this helps

Unable to take picture

I don't know if there is a mirror lock up button on this camera or not. Some have it for slow exposes. Nikon does have a technical phone number or place on their website to contact them. I had a D100 that had the ERR message show up on it, and it cost $400 to repair. But look for the mirror lock button.
