Keep prying. Plastic clips are strong. You won't break it, maybe a clip or 2. LCD is in a steel case inside. The outside plastic is only for looks.

There are five capacitors on the power board which have dried out and need replacement. A reputable repair shop should be able to fix this for around $50.00 including labor.

It sounds like you have the problem with the PC itself, you can try this monitor with another PC just to narrow down the problem.
The PC mayhave hardware problem usch as bad power supply that may explain why you cannot even open the CD tray.

Hp 1702 monitor comes on a few seconds then shuts off


1. your monitor has a power supply problem and will have to be serviced by a monitor tech.
the input regulator for the DC (Direct current is faulty and needs replacement as well as one or several capacitors related to the input circuit.

No power to moniter


This kind of problem needs an isolation. Please try the steps below:

1. Check the physical connection and make sure that the power cable is properly seated to the monitor.
2. Connect the monitor into different power outlet.
3. Try using different power cable.

Otherwise, you need to bring your monitor to the repair shop if none of the steps help.
