Hi and Welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly.

To the best of my knowledge and with well over 35 years experience I have yet to have to prime a dishwasher.

If this is your very first hook up and your certain that the water supply to the unit is on check to make sure all of the packing materials have been removed from the unit. Especially check in the area of the water level sensor. If the packing material is holding the float sensor up or.... there is packing tape over an electronic sensor it will not fill. After you have made sure all packing materials (see installation manual that came with the Dishwasher) have been removed and it still does not work then call for in home warranty service.

Thanks for using FixYa,

Kelly

I found this on ehow I believe it will help. How to Troubleshoot Dishwasher Residue By Dale Yalanovsky eHow Contributor

Dishwater residue is a fairly common occurrence, and several things can cause it. Even the newest dishwashers may leave residue, and it might have nothing to do with the actual dishwasher function itself. However, there are things you can do to prevent, limit or completely remove dishwasher residue during every washing cycle.

Other People Are Reading

  1. Detergent Residue
    • Modern phosphate-free detergents are the main culprits when it comes to detergent residue. After every wash, many leave a slight whitish residue behind. After several washings, the residue becomes caked on and leaves a noticeable white tint to your dishes. Some dishwasher detergent brands are better than others, and either minimize residue or do not leave any. Once residue is present, however, the only way to remove it is by hand scrubbing or scraping.
    Hard-Water Residue
    • Hard-water residue comes from non-softened water from your hot water tank. Non-softened water leaves a white tint on dishes, but no amount of scrubbing will remove it. Only by wiping a small patch of the dish with vinegar or lemon juice will you be able to ascertain whether the white residue left is hard water or detergent. The slight acidic action of the vinegar or lemon juice removes hard-water stains, but they have no effect on detergent residue.
    Greasy Residue
    • If the dishes feel greasy when they come out of the dishwasher freshly washed, you are dealing with a greasy residue. There are two main reasons for this: either the detergent is not an effective grease remover, or the hot water inside of the dishwasher, either from the hot water tank or the dishwasher's heating elements, is not hot enough. Boosting the hot water temperature on the water tank may solve the problem, and a second wash cycle may be needed for the dishes. A preventive measure of running the dishwasher empty with a full load of detergent also removes the residue inside of the dishwasher.
    Streaking and Spotting Residue
    • If you have spotting or streaking on your dishes, that may be a sign you need a rinse agent. Many modern dishwashers recommend a rinse agent to prevent spotting or streaking, and without one, your dishes will never be crystal clear or streak-free. The next time you do a dishwasher load, add a rinse agent. If the dishes come out spot- and streak-free, the problem is solved.

Is amsf-6 a self priming pump??

most all pumps need to be primed the first time before use, and every time after a repair !! you fill up the tank with water (about 3 gallons?)first this gives the pump suction it needs to start pumping IF YOU don't prime it it will burn up the shaft seal (in just a few minutes) and it will be slow to start pumping or leak OR not pump at all. if you ran it dry you will need to replace the shaft seal, you can split the pump at the seal plate leave the plumbing portion hooked up and bring the motor att. to the seal plate to your local pool pump motor repair guy and have him replace the shaft seal ..BEST CHOICE $20 and ask him how 2 take better care of it (priceless )..hope this helps ... jay the pump repair guy in longwood fl

My Asko dishwasher # D3531XL is leaving debris on dishes. the water is getting hot. I learned how to codes out of it but I don't understand them. Here's what I got: Valve: 001 Circ: 4.75V Heat:...

Hi,
How does the unit drain? From the unit, you need a high back loop behind the tank also under the sink as well. If connected to the garbage disposal directly, once the drain hose leaves the garbage disposal it need to go up to the top of the sink to prevent back flow. Also is connected to an air gap make sure the hoses are clear. If all this is fine, it means the unit is not removing all the water or food is being bought in to the tank when loading.
The dishwasher can only do so much, clean all filters inside, make sure unit is draining completely (very important).
I hope this helps, this unit has a time drain system, if the flow of water during drain is restricted, you will have dirty dishes when done.

Dishwasher isn't draining all the water when used.

It will leave some water for the motor prime but check your drain hose make it is up at the correct angle so water does not come back in when it drains

I have an maytag dishwasher and i can not get the water to come into the dishwasher i have everything hooked right it has power when i turn it on it just want let water go into it

you must prime all new installs on dishwashers. this means you must put about a gallon of water in the unit on the first wash.pour a gallon of water inside the dishwasher on the bottom ,close the door and run as normal.water will start to come into unit.good luck with your project.

Our dishwasher is leaving a film on everything

Disconnect the water line to dishwasher.this may be messy.connect it to a garden hose. the hose must be new . after connecting take the other end of the hose and pour CLR solution in it using a funnel.get at least half a gallon in the hose. raise the hose as needed so all the solution will fit .pinch the hose so the CLR doesnt leak out.connect hose to faucet turn on water run a large load cycle.if dishwasher has two water hookups, then use clothes washer hookups.if the hose on the dish washer is smaller than the garden hose than get a reducer at a hardware store very cheap.if that dont work have your water tested for contaminants.

Hose hookups

the smaller hose should be 3/8" is the water feed the larger hose is the discharge. you can open the front panel (2 torks screws) and you will see the water inlet valve in the left towards the center the electrial box is on the far right ten determine which hose you have for the fill under the sink...You will need a disposal or a tee off the plumbing to connect the discharge hose and a 3/8" off the HOT side of you sink plumbing to connect it Let me know what you find
