Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly. Most of the time when you can not adjust a carb there is yet another problem. That can be a leaking pimer bulb hose / line, the primer bulb can have a pin hole in it.
Also you can have a restricted fuel supply from the gas tank or as a result of a torn diaphram in the bottom of the carb. Lastly... the can be debris in the jet fuel passages that your adjusting. Check all of the above but if the unit is over 2 years old the pimer bulb and line / hose or the fuel tank outlet are prime suspects.

If you need more assistance please respond with your model and serial number along with what is is that you need assistance with.

Thanks for using FixYa,

They usually start with one turn out, then fine tune from there 1/8 turn at a time either way as needed. Sounds more like a carberator problem, not an adjustment. if you have adjusted already, you may have compounded your problem......

I have an older poulan pro 18 hp ohv.kohler engine. Tried adjusting throttle linkage to get more rpm. the throttle /carburator linkage plate has adjustment also. In what order do you start adustments

The Kohler is design for 3600 Max rpm with it developing peak torque at 2200 rpm 42.5 N·m (31.4 ft. lb.)

If your trying to go above the 3600 rpm then your only risking damaging the engine plus causing unnessary wear and tear on it.

Adjust carburator on homlite chain saw

If its an old Homelite you should have 3 screw on the carburator.
First bigger screw for adjust idle on the butterfly.
The 2 other for the mixture. One screw is ''L'' for low rpm mixture an other screw is ''H'' for high rpm mixture.

First the idle screw. It should just open a little bit the carburator butterfly.
Second full close both ''L'' and ''H'' screws (turn clockwise).
After open both ''L'' and ''H'' screws 1/2 to 3/4 turn (conterclockwise)

Normally the saw should start. Tune the ''L'' screw to have the motor running at idle if idle is to fast at this point is not important. After motor is running by itself at idle tune the ''H'' screw.
Full throttle tune the ''H'' screw to be able to pass from low rpm to high rpm with no lag.
Than at full throttle open again a little bit the ''H'' screw to make the high rmp mixture more rich.
Becarful if ''H'' screw is not adjust correctly the mixture will be to poor and motor damage can occur.

It may be necessary to re-tune a very little bit the ''L'' screw and idle screw after the correct setting of the ''H'' screw.

If it still not working carburator kit may be needed,

On some newer model there is no adjusting screws in this case see if a carburator kit is available for your model.

Carburator tune up of charadade 1992 sedan. The engine is running too fast while idle at 1200 r.p.m.

Before you start check the status of your choke. One that is stuck on will cause a high idle. If the choke checks out, proceed to the following:

You should have what's called a 2 needle carburetor. A larger screw adjustment for idle, and a smaller for high speed.

Start by adjusting your low speed (idle) needle until you reach the desired idle. I prefer about 850rpms. Do this with the engine running and adequately warmed so that your adjustments are not thrown off by the automatic choke.

Next slowly open up the high speed needle. As you open it your idle speed will gradually increase. Adust it in 1/8 turn increments, pausing after each adjustment to allow the changes to take affect. Keep opening it until you stop increasing your rpms, then take it back 1/8 of a turn.

Next readjust your idle mixture screw so that your idle is back down to 850rpms.

Carburettor adustment on 1995 mitsubishi starwagon

If you have a carburator still then you need to know more.
screwdriver method on feel/rpm gauge
Proper exhaust measurement.
Run her up to 650 rpm idle start adjusting mixture screw until max rpm obtained. back out a bit too be lean. Ajust Idle screw again for 650.
Turn on appliances as lighting and airco. If engine starts/tends to stall, vibrate increase the idle a bit more.

You are not ready with the engine if not doing ignition settings and valve clearances as well, etc.
