Hi fitfit759, assuming you have Windows XP. What you can do is go to My Computer - Local Disk (C:) - Program Files = Internet Explorer and with "right click" drag the iexplorer.exe icon to your desktop and then when you release the mouse it's going to ask you whether copy, move or create a shorcut. Click on create a shortcut and that's it.
It's a little strange because if you installed internet explorer with NO errors, you shouldnt have that problem. Please dont forget to rate and give positive feedback for our free support today. Thank you :D

Why does my internet freeze? what can I do

If your computer as a whole is freezing, then you have to check for viruses / malware.
But, if it is only your internet that freezes up, then try resetting your Internet Explorer.
I am presuming that you are using Internet Explorer 7 or 8, as your browser.
To reset Internet Explorer (IE) :-
1. Open Internet Explorer .
2. Click Tools, and then click Delete Browsing History.
3. In Delete Browsing History, click Delete All.
4. Click to select the Also delete files and settings stored by add-ons
check box, and then click OK.
5. Switch to the Security tab.
6. Click Reset all zones to default level, and then click OK.
7. On the Advanced tab, click Reset.
8. In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset.
9. When Internet Explorer finishes restoring the default settings, click
Close, and then click OK .
10. Uncheck Enable third-party browser extensions option in the Settings box
11. Close Internet Explorer . The changes take effect the next time that
you open Internet Explorer .
Try to reset IE, as explained above.
Even after resetting IE, if IE still freezes, then there may be some viruses / malware on your computer.

How do I get IE 8 icon on my desktop

Go to the installation directory. It is probably C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer.
Look for a file there called iexplore.exe.
Right click on that file. Then use the "Create ShortCut" menu pick! That creates the shortcut. Last step: just drag the shortcut to your desktop. Done!

    SHORTCUT TAB

Hi sadiebay. It was not my solution for your initial post, but I think I can explain why you can not find the shortcut tab.

Because Internet Explorer is a Microsoft program integrated into XP, it is considered a 'Desktop Icon' item. The shortcut you are trying to find the properties tag for was probably put on the desktop using the Show Desktop Items routine in the Display Properties routine. It will not have the same right-click options available as a regular shortcut icon placed on your desktop.

The solution is to go to your Start Button->All Programs and right click on the Internet Explorer icon in the program list, then Send To Desktop. You will get another icon that looks the same, but you should notice that the new one has the small shortcut arrow on the 'E' where the old one doesn't. Now when you right click on the new icon (the one with the arrow) you get Properties as the last option, and within the Properties tab you should see Run with a drop down box next to it, in which you can select Maximized. Delete the old icon (right-click and delete, doesn't hurt anything) and put the new one in its place to keep your desktop set as you are used to it.
