Cant open the battery door on my canon sd1200is

There are two ways to open:

1) instead of using the thumb to slide, use your nail to put in the clevis to push side to open

2) or unscrew 6 screws to take the face plate and then, try to open.

Top right slider button won't slide to "picture" will only take pictures, and won't take videos also, the right side faceplate came off because both screws fell out.

This is a very easy fix, Recommend first calling 1-800-OK-CANON to get an estimate for their repair. It really should not be costly at all to repair due to the ease of the repair.

But, if they seem unreasonable in their estimate, you'll need to move the back face plate backward just enough so that you can align the slide button with its inner switch. Just remove the screws (keeping track of where they go) along the perimeter of the back faceplate. Using your fingers only, gently pry the plate back a small amount sufficient enough that you can move the switch to its other position. Reseat the back and see if the switch moves freely. Then try out the camera, and reseat the screws.

If you don't feel comfortable doing the above, find a friend who is.

Time and date resetting constantly...

This camera has a separate date battery. Lift up the small rectangular cover next to the main batteries. A small CR1220 battery maintains the date. Replace it and you should be OK. I just discovered this on the Canon web site.

Lens error 12 appears on screen, lens wont retract and camera turns itself off. How do I fix this

It is very easy to fix. Just Be Very Careful when doing the following Repair.

You will need the Following a Size 0 Screw Driver, and a Small Eye Glass Flat Head Screw driver.

1. remove the 4 Screws holding the side panels. (Make sure you do not mix these screws with the ones on step 2) as these screws are shorter.
2. Remove the 6 Screws on the bottom of the camera
3. Now carefully pull apart from the bottom up. You will see 2 more screws on the left side but do not remove them.
4. Seperate the Front faceplate carefully around the Lens assembly.
5. while keeping the Camera with the lens Facing Strate Up, remove the Two Screws on the right side of the Lens, but keep caution not to move the camera while the screws are out of place.
6. remove the Cover to the Lens Gears.
7. Now this is very important!!!!, Take the Small Eyeglass Flat head Screw Driver and Pry the Gear To the Left, not the one by the motor. you do not have to take the gear off, however just enough to allow you to Move the Lens Assembly manualy.
8. Turn the Lower half of the Lens assembly carefully until the Lens is compleatly In and lens protector flaps Shut.
9. Put the Gear back on.
10. put the Gear Cover back on and Screw the Two screws back in. Make sure they are Firmly tightened
11. Put the Front Face Plate back on by putting on the top first, then closeing the bottom.
12. make sure the side pannel with the Wrist Strap is in Correctly before screwing it in.
13. Place the Side Pannels back on and Screw them in.
14. Screw the 6 Bottom Screws back in.

Now put the Battery Back in and test it out. This should fix the error you were having. i just perfomed this on my camera 15 min before i Wrote these instructions it worked! Step 15 get back to taking great shots!

Hot shoe loose

Canon typically hides the screws under the metal plate on the shoe itself. You have to free it at the front and slide it back to get access to the screws holding the shoe

Canon PowerShot A510 "change the batteries"

Take a look at the following recall advisory for the A530/A540.

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=PgComSmModDisplayAct&fcategoryid=221&modelid=12914&keycode=2111&id=28800

Look closely at the second picture. Does the spring on your battery door stick out and overlap/touch the metal battery contact plate as shown in the second picture? If so, affix a small piece of tape to the contact plate between the plate and the spring to insulate the plate from the spring. Make sure that the spring should not be able to directly touch the plate, and is shielded by the tape.

Note that currently Canon has not included the A510 in the recall, but if you experience this problem, this fix should correct it.
