Disconnect the vent tubing and check for any clogged up areas. That will prevent the heat to work vis the moister control sensor. Clogged vents are the number one reason why dryers do not heat up while spinning

Why is my whirlpool dryer model number ggw9878pw1 not getting hot. What can the problem be?

Yours is a GAS DRYER.

The gas supply has been turned off for a reason, probably by the dryer, and needs to be inspected and repaired by someone who is VERY familiar with gas dryers.

Even if I knew exactly what the problem was with your dryer, I would be hesitant to share the solution with you as a gas dryer is soooo inherently and incredibly dangerous.

I hope no "FixYa.com" contributors chime in with some "better idea" that might put you at even the least amount of risk.

They rank up there as a #1 reason for a house burning to the ground and killing everyone in it.

This is NOT a question that can (or should) be answered via FixYa.com.

I am sorry, but you need to have a professional repairman come look at it.

On the other hand, an electric clothes dryer is much, much safer, and can likely be had for about the same price as the service call and repair of your gas dryer.

Just spend a moment to think about it: an open gas flame and LINT. There is always something wrong with that combination.

Your present gas dryer has failed you. BE SAFE, and replace it with a much safer electric version.

That is the only "FixYa" I can recommend.

Gas dryer won't heat

Sounds like the solenoid is not opening and letting gas flow. There should be a small plastic plug on the front of the dryer near the bottom. Remove this and start the dryer, look in, if you do not see a flame, this could very well be the challenge. Applianceparts.com sells most parts needed for basic repairs. If you are not comfortable working on gas lines, have a repair person check this for you. Hope this helps.

My dryer spins, but it doesn't get hot?

There is a problem with the heat source of the dryer. If electric, it is probably a burnt out element. If you're handy, you may be able to replace the element yourself. If you're not comfortable doing electrical repairs - don't. Call a pro to do it for you. The heating element is usually accessible when the rear panel is removed.

Gas operated (propane and natural gas) dryers are much different. A plumber will likely be needed to disconnect gas lines from the appliance and make the repairs. Improperly connected fittings can develop slow leaks that can eventually collect and explode from exposure to the slightest spark. This a a job for a pro.

Post again with your dryer make and model for specific help with it.
