Question about Dell Inspiron 1420 Notebook
Likely the backlight but those are quite hard to replace. I would try the inverter board 1st as they are cheap and often the problem. You should look 1st at the inverter board to see if there are any cracked chips. Otherwise I would suggest a new/used LCD. BTW you can narrow down the issue by unplugging the cable from the MB to the LCD and or inverter board and try to boot with an external monitor connected. This rules out the issue being on the MB
