Monitor backlight problem (Dell S2409W)

Hi
My Dell S2409W monitor seems to have a problem with its backlight. On booting it shows the windows boot screen for about 5 or 6 seconds then goes off. It then comes back on at the welcome screen but again only for about 5 or 6 seconds before going off again. Again it comes back on to show the desktop for another 5 or 6 seconds before going off for good. If at this point I just switch off the monitor and back on it displays the desktop again but again only for 5 or 6 seconds. It will repeat this indefinitely. It seems to be a power/hibernation problem. The monitor is new but not covered by warranty. Is the backlight a single entity? Can it be adjusted or failing this can I run a seperate power feed to it?. Theres no chance of adjusting it on the menu as there is'nt time.

Pa_ma_fi, Have you figured out how to do the flashlight test on you monitor when it's lcd panel turns black or blank n black. No, CCFL back-lit lcd monitors require lots of things to be working all together at once to light up the CCFL tubes. The new style curlie-Q screw-in, energy efficient CFL light bulbs are of the same similar technology and use an "electronic-ballast" circuit to "light-up" the lamp! You will need to check to see if pc is working perfectly with old monitor that you know is good. You should do some free reading here at fixya in my and other fixya ccfl back-lit lcd technicians profiles. ou will also need to visit YOUTUBE for "LCD monitor disassembly" and "LCD monitor repair" videos. May need printed circuit board "switch-mode-power-supply/ ccfl inverter supply " to be repaired If pc software/firmware has been determined not to be causing this on/off/on/off symptom.

Dell monitor e177fpc

I sounds like you have the video card set to a resolution that is higher that the E177 can handle. It can only go to 1280 x 1024 resolution. You will need to boot into safe mode in windows and set the resolution lower than that so the monitor can show it correctly.

I have a Dell inspiron 1525 and the screen is black. The system is booting into windows but nothing is showing. fn-f8 will not output the signal.

Hi

How do you know that the laptop is booting into windows did you connect to an external monitor
and if it did work on external monitor you could then uninstall the display driver in device manager or do a system restore and then when windows restarts it may load the correct driver ( if that is/was the problem )

If you are sure that it is booting into windows but cannot see anything you could try restarting pressing F8 while booting to get you into safe mode and see if that will show on monitor if it does you could uninstall the display driver reboot and hopefully windows will reload the correct driver

good luck hope this works for you

LCD is on...seems like backlight is not functional; when external monitor connected, boot-up and bios screen visible. After boot-up, screen goes to "power save" mode and will not return

Use the 'FN' key (blue coloured?) and one of the other blue-coloured keys to "toggle" the video:

1. LCD only
2. external monitor only
3. both LCD & external

After boot-up, Windows defaults to "LCD only", and so the external monitor goes to "sleep".

Can't set to optimal resolution

Hi, according to this link: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/monitors/S2409W/en/ug/internet.htm You have to enter your "service tag" number or contact dell about obtaining a "graphics adapter". I hope this information helps you, best of luck. Please let us know if this information helped and accept this answer. If you need more clarification please feel free to ask... Kiyoske_dante
