"handset. No line"

I just bought this phone and for the first few weeks it has worked fine. Now it has a message on the screen saying "Handset No Line". Calls can come in but I can't get a line out. I get a rapid beeping.

    Hi there,

I have the same problem. The line into the house is fine, I tried the phone in different houses and it seem to be working fine. We recently moved and in our old house we got "handset no line". After we moved the phone was working for about one week and now we got "handset no line" here as well.

The electricity was turned off in the house and, since it's been turned back on, the phone says ' connecting' and has no dial tone.

we have had these phones for over a year and have worked great, now all of a sudden we are getting the "handset. No line" and both phones do not work.

also the call waiting number is not showing up on the phone when someone calls in while we are on the other line.

'no line' for outgoing calls.   everything works for incoming!
no  recent electrical outages & dsl filters are on all electric outlets.
     what now?

my handset says no line and won't let me make outgoing calls. what do i do to fix this?

  • Anonymous Oct 24, 2008

We had the same problem, we replaced the batteries in our phones and then got the "no Line" problem. We unplugged the phone and waited a minute and it started working again. Hopefully we won't have to do it everyday. Thanks for the advice!

I have internet over the phone line as well so I seem to have forgot that all the phones need to have DSL filters on them, once that was done my phone was working like new again

Not sure. Try spinning the phone on a potter's wheel for ten to 15 minutes. That should free up some calls.

Searching....

The problem of searching.....

After trying all the technician's suggestions had failed; I disconnected the base to return it to the store for replacement. Then I decided to try disconnecting and reconnecting power and phone line, placed handset back on base and the phone reset itself and is working fine...

Recap:

Disconnect power and phone line from base for about 30 seconds and reconnect both power and phone line to base and place handset back on base; it should reset...

OUT OF SERVICE MESSAGE

Hi J,

Apparently that one from Ebay looks nice but has issues (not uncommon). If you took it out of the box, charged it fully and its has garbled audio, then the handset or the base is defective, or both, but at least at this point you can get a handset to "communicate" with the base and the "in/use light turns on, when you try to access a line, correct? . If you get the "out of service" message when trying to "move" the "ebay" handset to the other base, it sounds as if the base station and handsets are "coded" and were married together at the factory and one handset won't interchange with anothers base. However, try this before you go the repair service route, or roll the dice with another fine product off EBay :). Unplug and power down both bases, the one from Ebay and your old one. Take the Ebay handset and set it in the charging cradle of your old base. Power up and wait three minutes. Plug dial tone in and give it a try. If it still says "no service" , and won't light the "in/use" light when you try to use it then it won't work with your base, or/and your old handset you lost is somewhere near and is still communicating with its base. Now if you lost your handset weeks ago, then the odds that it is still alive are pretty slim. But I have heard handsets in the warehouse beep for days til their battery dies. You can google cordess telephone repair for service. Good Luck. CG

Vtech M6896 phones do not work

Step 1: Press and hold FIND HANDSET on the main telephone base for 10 seconds.

Step 2: When the IN USE light starts to flash, release the FIND HANDSET button.

Step 3: Press and release FIND HANDSET again. The IN USE light will turn off and in a few seconds, all handsets will be de-registered.

Step 4: All handsets will show NOT REGISTERED.

To register a handset (register 1 handset at a time):
Step 1: Place the handset in the base unit or a charger that is connected to a power outlet. If PRESS FIND HNDST 4 SEC ON BASE does not appear on the screen after a few seconds, lift up handset and place in base or charger again.

Step 2: On the telephone base, press and hold FIND HANDSET for four seconds. Release FIND HANDSET once the IN USE light comes on.

After a while the handset will emit a series of tones, the newly registered handset will be assigned the lowest extension number not previously assigned to another system handset (1-4) when successfully registered. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 if the handset does not successfully register to the telephone base within two minutes.

Handset can't find base.

I just got a 3rd handset for the same phone system and were having the same error message,,, the at&t help line does not know what it is,.,. We returned it once and got another one because of the same problems, and were still having it.. AT & T help line said to return it again and try another one .. then he actually said to replace the whole phone system .. thats easier said than done! we paid 199 plus tax on the system and then another 81.00 for the third handset!

GE dect 6.0 cordless phone bought at walmart

We had the same problem.

"Our phones worked fine for two weeks but now you can not dial out
and when someone calls us they can't hear we say. The line still works
fine with our old phone1.gif."

To fix the problem, I simply unplugged the base AC plug from the outlet, waited about 15 seconds, and then plugged it back in. Both handsets said searching on the display and then handset names returned to the display as originally programmed. The phones returned to operation as normal.

2nd handset doesn't work

Hi Rayfatz,
I think your problem might be that the second handset is not registered with the base station. Take the second phone out of it's cradle and place it in the base station (where the first phone is), and leave it there for 20 seconds. Place it back in it's own cradle, and it should start working. Hope this helps! Hal
