Mic wont work of course

I plugged my microphone directly into the back of my computer in the pink outlet where the microphone is displayed, next to where my speakers are plugged in (there is a headset jack plug in on my speakers, but no mic plug in). I turned all the volumes up, made sure it wasn't muted, and made sure the mic was on, but i cant seem to get it to work. HELP PLEASE!

If the microphone plugs directly into the sound card, it will not have a seperate driver as moshal85 suggests, it will work using the sound card driver in the computer. If you have sound when you play MP3's for example, that would signify that the soundcard is working as it should.

If you are getting no sound at all from the computer, then you may need to (as moshal85 states) install the sound card drivers.

If you are getting sound, but the microphone still isn't working, then its either a faulty microphone, or a mixer (volume control) setting problem.

Make sure microphone is selected as recording device in the mixer and is not muted, and/or try a different microphone.

I have the gateway SX2851. Does it have a microphone and if so how do I find it. Cortana says it is not plugged in but I don't know where it is to plug it in.

I think you may need to plug an external Mic into the PC, it goes into the pink connector in the rear most of the time although you may have a pink input on the front as well.
They almost always have a little picture of a mic next to them.

I bought this mic and I have a few questions: 1.

If the mic has a usb cord, plug it in any unused usb port. If it has a 3.5 mm plug look on the computer for a pink colored connector or one that has a mic symbol next to it. Should work on a Mac too.

I plug in the microphoin into the computer and cannot get it to work. When I go to the Sound and Devices tab in Control Panel, I cannot see the Logitech device, only the defaul device that was there prior...

Is this a USB Mocrophone? If not, it will not show up any differently in your sound device manager.
If is is a 3.5mm headphone jack style mic, plug it into the pink connector on the back of your computer. If you are using Vista or Windows 7 right click the sound (volume) icon on your task bar. Select recording devices, then when the window pops up, try tapping the mic. When you locate the device that shows activity on the meter, right click it and select, make default device, and make defualt communication device. From here you can open the properties of that device and set the recording volumes to whatever you like. Your mic should now work with any applications that can use it, such as Skype.

How do I plug my BA745 Boston speakers into a MAC desktop with one headphone outlet in the back?

I have the same speakers. It should have two plugs, one green and one pink. the pink plug is for a microphone. On the side of the speaker with the control knobs, you will find a headphone jack and a microphone jack. Unless you plan to plug a microphone into the pink microphone jack on the side of the speaker, you don't need to plug in the pink plug that goes to the PC. This is basically a microphone extension cord that runs through the speaker cord. That's all the pink plug is for. The green plug, on the other hand, is for your audio out. take the green plug and plug it into your computer's head phone outlet and you're good to go. You can use the speakers with any device that has a headphone jack. Just make sure you use the green plug, not the pink plug.

Computer wont recognize the microphone on the turtle beach x4

Can you try using the X1 mic on your PC? Green plug to green jack, pink plug to pink jack, USB plug to USB port. Talk into the X1 mic. Can you hear your voice? If yes, then you probably have a bad chat-controller cable. If no, then your X1 mic may not be working. If that's the problem, you should contact Turtle Beach tech support for help. support@turtlebeach.com.

My microphone not working on my dell xps 420 vista system

double click on the speaker and make sure that the mic does not have the mute box with an x in it.

I am pretty certain you have a card in your computer for it mentions a 7.1 speaker system.
If you put your service code in to do a search for drivers you will get the correct ones for your particular machine. Download install and reboot.
If you are not using six speakers and one sub woofer then the pink one in the back is the mic
