Question about Dishwashers

2 Answers

My whirlpool ADP6000WH starts but after a minute or so just makes a buzzing/humming noise. In the past it would sporadically kick into life after a certain time but its not doing that now, just the buzzing noise. Any ideas?

    Hello 'SilverDragon'

It appears that its the drain pump thats causing the problem, put the inlet into a glass of water, connected 240v but nothing came from waste pipe, it just hummed. sorry i should of said the problem happened even at start of new programme. Do you think i have hit the nail on the head, or do you think it could be something else?

    Hi Macmarkus.

It is a sticking washer pump causing the problem, i have ordered a new one.

    Many Thanks.

    Scott

Hi, First off you need to determine if it is filling with water and then the "buzzing" sounds starts or does it not fill and the noise begins immediately. If it starts right away before filling, its a faulty water valve. If it fills and then the noise starts, it is either something stopping the wash motor&pump from starting, or the wash motor is faulty or seized. The later is common unfortunately and based on your description of this happening periodically in the past and then starting, it sounds like a seized/faulty motor&pump assembly. I was unable to locate the model number you provided, but if you can tell me its approx. age I can tell you how to check the pump. I'll look for your reply here. Macmarkus :)

Ok so your dishwasher won't do anything... it justs sits there and "Hums" you can't make it respond to any controls, and the ONLY way to Stop it. is to unplug the unit, replugging back in it simply "Hums" again and will do nothing.
Now this happens because, the STOP Button, is pressed and the "Door Opened", during the Wash Cycle. This should NOT be done. You shouldNEVER TURN IT OFF MID-CYCLE. you should instead, Simply, pull on the handle, to Open the door, the system will take care of everything, after, you close it,and pick up where it left off. The turning OFF, makes the machine "Think" that a New Cycle, is going to be done, before the old one is finished, and resets itself to do it all again. But it still has water, that's not meant to be there so it must dump it out.
Now, the FIX. Take the Dishwasher, out, and tip over on it's side, tip to about a 45' angle. Water will come out from underneath, this is from a small "Overflow" reservoir. this reservoir has an "Anti-Flood" switch. The removing of this water will "Reset" this Switch, and allow the dishwasher to work again.
So what happens, is this, when the STOP button is pressed Mid-Cycle, the machine must "Dump" whatever water is still in the machine, into the "Overflow Reservoir". This water then causes the Anti-flood switch to jam, and this stops the machine, until it is reset,by the above method.

Have a Toshiba 42hm66 and it has started to make a humming/buzzing noise. At first it would make the noise for a few minutes and then quit...now it does it the whole time the tv is on. Any ideas?

Sounds like a fan getting cought on some dust inside you might want to have this serviced if you do not know how to clean it.

The humming would be a fan the buzzing would be the fan getting stuck!!

Humming noise, runs and stops thru out drying process.

You have a motor that has a thermal overload built into it. This is for the dryer's protection. My best guess is to replace the motor. But before you do all that, make sure the wiring is good from the receptacle to the controls in the back of the dryer. It could not have a good connection thus causing this noise.

My whirlpool aide by side fridge icemaker is making buzzing or humming noise

Hello
Welcome to fixya.
I'm Huuum and happy to assist you,

You said, your ice maker is making a buzzing or humming noise ice maker isn't making much ice. . fridge is about 2 1/2 years old.

This sounds like a clogged water line or a electrical short !
I would get service rather than take a chance on electrical fire.
Or burn up the circuit in the ice maker.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to advise you.

Buzzing noise

The buzzing you are experiencing is most likely the electric valve solenoid coil.
That is the valve that lets gas in when the stove is turned on.
Another source of buzzing/humming can be a mechanical clock, if hter is one.
If it is digital, then it woul not make noise.
