Question about Home

I am trying to rewire a 2-prong electrical plug but it does not have screws and a divider between the prongs like the ones described on the help sites. Instead the prongs flip open sideways. I have threaded the wire through the hole in the plastic housing. Now how do I attach the wires safely? Do I just wrap them around the prongs? Above or below the hinges they flip open on? Is it OK that some exposed wire will be inside the plastic housing as the covered cable will only just fit a little way into the housing. Thank you!

Please do yourself a favor and visit your local Lowes or Home Depot and purchase a quality two prong plug replacement. Using older material will cause an inferior result and is very dangerous. Err on the side of caution and use newer GUI rated materials

How to wire a plug

In USA, Either the male or female plug connector would be wired the same. Black is hot wire and would connect to the BRASS colored round head screw ( Smallest flat prong or slot ). White is the neutral wire and would connect to the SILVER colored round head screw ( Largest flat prong or slot ). Green is the ground wire and would connect to the GREEN screw ( ONLY HEX shaped screw ). 1) FOR YOUR LIFE SAFETY, ALWAYS USE 3-WIIRE PLUGS WHEN REPAIRING 3-WIRE EXTENSION CORDS! 2) Check the male plug connector. It should have two flat and one rounded prong. The rounded prong is the ground wire connection. If the ground prong is missing, replace the plug. 3) Inspect the outer cover for damage. 4) Do not use cords with damaged outer covers. Taping over the damage is not an adequate repair, for safety, replace the cord.

I have a Maytag dryer model MED5740TQ0 that won't start. Dryer was recently moved to a new location. House was being remodeled so plug and breaker had to be installed. Plug is a 3 prong and dryer had 4...

If you are only getting 120v to the dryer, you still have a breaker tripped. It should be right next to the single pole 30. It takes 2 breakers to get the 240v you need to run the dryer. Try resetting another breaker expecially the ones marked 30amp. You do need to get a double pole breaker installed even for safety reasons.

My dryer's power cord has 4 prongs, my wall socket has 3 holes, can I change the power cord, or is there an adapter to change from 4 to 3 pronges.

Un screw the 2 hex screws from the back of the dryer where the cord goes in.

There will be 3 screws that connect the cord to the dryer, loosen or remove them to remove the 4 prong cord.

A hardware store will carry the 3 prong cord you need, tell them it is for a dryer.

Re-connect the 3 prong cord to the dryer.

Plug in and test after you have installed the new cord.

Swich 4 cord to 3 cord plug in

To switch from a 4 prong to a 3 prong. First remove 4 prong cord, save screws you will need them. Look a 3 prong, it will be flat with 3 wires next to each other with metal fittings on the ends. The 2 outside which are hot wires go to the outside screws on the block, and the center which is neutral goes in the center. The only difference in the cords is the 4 prong has a ground, in new construction this is code. You don't need a ground if house is wired for a 3 prong.

I need help wiring a Delta 28-280 model bandsaw from 220v to 110v. The saw came 110v from the factory, but the previous owner re-configured the wiring to 220v. I need it back to 110v. Thank you.

Rewiring the motor isn't hard, but be aware that you can hurt/kill yourself if you mess this up.

That said, manual is here.

Before you start, make sure you have a couple wire nuts (orange & yellow are a good sizes), a replacement plug, and some electrical tape.

1.) Unplug the cord from the wall. Go ahead and remove the prongs since you're going to need to switch it back to a 120V type prong adaptor. Don't put new prongs on until you've got things rewired. This will help keep you from accidentally electrocuting yourself.

2.) Open the saw base and have a look at the motor. There's a cover held on by a single screw. There should also be a wiring diagram on the motor that looks something like:1aa0c59.jpg

3.) When you remove the cover you should see three groups of wires. There should be numbers on the wires, but you can also figure them out by looking at the number of wires grouped together (see wiring diagram).

4.) You want to change from three groups of wires to two groups of wires per diagram, so when you're done, 1,3, & 5 should be grouped and 2,4, & 8 should be grouped. This is assuming your wiring diagram matches mine.

Make sure you don't have any exposed copper (cover w/ electrical tape if necessary). Make sure you have the wirenuts screwed on securely. Make sure you close the cover up and put the screw back in reasonably tight.

Put the prong on the wire, plug it in, and hit the start button. If you did everything right, it will start right up and no breakers will trip. If you goofed a pair, your motor may spin in the wrong direction. Otherwise, enjoy.

I have a delta dc-380 planer that has a 3-prong plug (looks to be modified by last owner) and I have a 4-prong plug where my dryer is. Can you help me to re-wire the planer for a 4-prong plug? thanks in...

Is it a single phase motor model 22-680, or a three phase motor model 22-681. The single phase motor will have a 3 prong outlet where the blades are in tandem and the ground is longer than the blades so it is grounded before electricity gets to the planer. A three phase motor will have to be wired directly to your house electricity without a power cord. You will have to get an electrician to hook that up so you are within the building codes of your area.

You can get a 4 prong dryer plug from home depot and wire it. I think they cost about $15 or so. Just remove the old cord and wire the new one the same way that the old cord had been wired, black to black, white to white, and red to red. Ground the green wire to a grounded screw inside your switch box. Turn your breaker off before you plug in the new cord just in case you wired it incorrectly. Then turn the breaker back on. This way the breaker will trip immediately and you will not damage anything, MAINLY YOURSELF. 220v is nothing to sneeze at. And if you feel at all uncomfortable doing this you should probably get someone qualified to rewire it. Be safe.

I bought a roper with a 3 prong but i need a 4 prong. i bought a 4 prong plug but I don't know where to connect the left over wire in the dryer.

The laws in most states are changing to where the NEC Code requires the use of this 4 prong plug. It is quite common to see this 4 prong plug installed in new apartment buildings and rental properties because of this law requirement.
So what you have is a red, black, white and green wire on the dryer side of this wire plug.
The red and the black wires are your hots (110 volts) and shall be connected on each outside screw of the drier electrical terminal and the white wire (neutral) shall be connected to the center screw.
So now you are left with an extra green wire with no place to hook it huh?
I suggest just loosing one of the drier electrical terminal mounting screws and hooking it there. The ideal here is to ground the outside body of this machine to prevent possibility of electrical shock if water is present (like a leak somewhere nearby).
In actuality this really serves no viable purpose because the white wire does exacly the same thing, just in a different manor,,, but hey,,, our law makers are not certified electricians either. They just like new ways of stimulating sales and profits.
.
Note: if you are in a rental property and this 4 prong wall receptical is installed, I would not suggest you remove it or change it in any manor, as this will open yourself up to possibile legal liabilities if an incident were to occur,, like fire.
