Look for a crack in the crankcase... possibly near a mounting boss. Also oil filler plugs sometime leak if overfilled.

Suggestion: Use some "gunk" engine degreaser to make it sparkle so you can spot where the leak originates. You probably need to put it up on a bench OR use an inspection mirror.

My mom's old singer will start sewing then slows down to a stop.

It may need a REALLY thorough cleaning & oiling, Cindy, including the motor bearings. The motor's windings may be getting weak, too, or the new belt may be slipping.

Tecumseh hm100 leaks oil day after using.found oil leak around plate underneath eng,i tried tightening screws no help.can i remove this plate to check for a gasket leak?

You could do this but leak could also be around oil filler plug if not seated. The main engine bearing seal is more likely if the unit is old with large number of hours.

If you find a bad gasket, replace with the silicone make your own sealant AND DO NOT overtighten screws. That can worsen the problem with gaskets.

Motor -10 h. p. back fires---have drained the gas line empty --checked the plug- tecumseh

If it's back firing there's really only two probable reasons, the timing is off or you have a problem with the valve train. If it's been sitting a while I'd check for a stuck valve. As far as timing goes I'm not familiar enough with your engine to tell you what to do.

I have a Sears Craftsman mower with Tecumseh, major oil leak

On many Tecumseh engines, there is a crankcase breather located under the flywheel. It has a cork gasket to seal the top plate of the breather. Either the rubber breather housing is cracked, or the cork gasket needs replaced.

Engine starts and runs fine for about a minute

try to clean out the carb first with auto parts carb cleaner, then you may need to buy a totally new carb for the unit, as this company will NOT sell parts for these carbs due to the carb setting is sealed & has to stay at a set level for voltage output and setting

Coleman Powermate 10 HP Generator shuts down after a few minutes.

I have an HM100 on a 5500 watt gen with the same problem. This motor calls for a J17 spark plug, but I found using a J19 (hotter) plug solved the problem. I think the J17 doesn't get hot enough for a complete combustion burn so it act like fuel starvation thus resulting in the black sooty and wet plug.

2001 Hyundai Accent 167,000 miles

At 167,000 miles there will be wear on the piston bores and rings this means you will be burning off oil even during normal running

Standing test is to make sure that the car is in park and get someone to really rev the engine for a few seconds let it die down and do it again repeat this 6 or so times and I bet you will see a thin blue smoke coming from the muffler
