Question about HP Compaq nc6320 Notebook

Hard Drive with password protected.

Hi! I bought a laptop Compaq NC6320 from a Flea market for my kids to use for school. When I turn on the machine, it said: missing boot segment or something. Fortunately, it came with the orginal boot cd for windows xp. So, I decided to go to the set up screen and make it bootable from the CD and reload windows xp. However, when I get to the point of re-install windows xp, it doesn't recognize the hard drive. I belive the hard drive is locked with a password. How could I by pass this issue? Thank you.

I am having similiar problem as was in the thread for the issue of been
locked out of my HP Compaq nc6320 pc, The unit powers on no problem,
but is not accepting my username and password, if I purchase a new hard
drive and upload it will this solve the access issue?

The notebook powers on fine and then you come to the Windows XP
Professional, Welcome to Windows and it requests, 'Press
Ctrl-Alt-Delete to begin' which I do and then I come to which it then
requests me to Log On to Windows, the username and password is not
working with the details I entered and I unfortunatly puchased this
second hand thinking I was getting a good deal. I would greatly
    appreciate your feedback on this.

I had the same problem. This is how I reset my password on a compaq or hp nc6320.
1. unplug the power cord
2. unplug the battery
3. take two screws from the ram cover on the back of the laptop (see youtube for this step)
4. open the keyboard
5. unplug the cmos battery cable (very easy to do)
6. plug power cable and turn on the laptop
7. laptop would erase passwords.
8. put everything back together.

A pleasure to help.

No its not blocked by password. Windows XP is able to detect hard disk with SATA interface.

If you will make your SATA disabled in your BIOS, then you can easily install the windows xp.

Good Luck

You have to replace the hard drive , there is no way to get past it
, you can purchase a 30 or 40 gb for about 40 to 60 dollar,
They are not that hard to replace 15 mim. the most

Ok first of all when u start ur pc you will see for a short time which key to press to enter setup(usually f 10) setup is your bios.
so enter bios and go to advanced tab and enable boot from cd,also can change boot order( cd first)
save and exit.startup pc with operating disk in cd drive and press any key when prompted.
choose install windows then system will check for previous os and inform u of any os.choose install new and format partition.
once windows installed you may have to find various drivers separatly like vga, wireless, pci modem.if you use wireless get drivers for it and save on cd beforehand then all you have to do is install your wireless get online and install any others you may need.

theres a program called spotmau power suite which once a boot disk is done you can use the disk to unlock drive(passwords)

Also theres a program called partition magic which also creates a boot disk to repair hard drives (bad sectors)

I have both these programs if you need one or both.

spotmau retrieves passwords or wipes passwords and loads straight away on startup.it also has various other programs accessed from a menu.

partition magic is very good for damaged sectors.

    it partitions and formats.

It sounds like the hard drive has been locked with a password. This is the most secure method to protect your data if the computer has been compromised or stolen. It is virtually impossible to unlock a hard drive password because the password itself is written on the hard drive and cannot be removed even if you install the hard drive on another computer. Since you cannot access the hard drive you cannot access the password. You need to get a new hard drive or one that doesn't have a password lock. If it's a Windows account password, you can remove it by getting a software password remover - these can be downloaded from the Internet.

To reset the BIOS password read the information from this link.

In case of your HP Compaq laptop the easiest method would be using software from Hiren's Boot CD as it's pretty hard to open it up and reach for the CMOS battery or the jumper.

Hi, removing the hard drive should not damage any component but be sure to touch something metal before you take it out as it will reduce the ammount of static discharge from the body.

Using a screwdriver, You'll be able to open a cover on the bottom of the laptop and disconnect the CMOS battery which will clear the power on password. Try to find the laptops Maintenance and Service guide online if you're unsure of how to do this. Google should find it for you.

HP Compaq nc6320 pc notebook issue

Hello,
it seems that its a not a problem with your hard disk at it load on to the windows succesfully. Chances are any one of these :-
1. Some one might have changed the user name or password.
2. The file that holds the password might be corrupted.
3.If you are using a network based login, ask your administrator for assistance.

The better solution is to Repair install or Re-Install the operating system...
